@nutzz: I think Lauryn lyrics are just like the Bible, both literal and symbolic. I don't know why her Christian vision disturbs you. Those are her beliefs, and she is not asking anyone to believe what she believes. It is the Christian's duty to share our beliefs with others, whether in word or deed. She just happens to have a global audience. Like I mentioned earlier, she may have gotten a little over zealous with it at times, so I can definitely see how that would turn some people off, but the bottom line is: that's who she is. We all know our strengths and weaknesses, and maybe she had to take it to the extreme in order to withstand the indulgences that come with being a celebrity. If her belief in God keeps her grounded and sane in a world where people worship you and will give you anything you want (and everything you don't need), then I say good for her. I know she's like that... I'll finish by getting used to But... What I wanted to say is : While she changes in an over zealous way (in 2000) I personaly changed the other way (maybe few years later) . I realized one day that we weren't alone (I mean, the christian), and that this religion had an history and that we couldn't be better or "righter" than others. Why would the people be happier with the christian god in their life ?! While this had hurt me so much .... I know I have a personal problem with that belief because "the Christian's duty is to share our beliefs with others" .... Saying "I believe in God, It fits me and you, with who are you happy?" is sharing (well, if you listen to the answer of course" . But Saying " you're in the hell side if you don't believe in god and follow what Bible says", is not sharing... It's frighten the people, and I 've seen too much this kind of "strategy" even sometimes that what not conscious, they just repeat what they heard. And Hasn't lauryn sung "want a love with no fear", "fearless love" ? I understand that like a freely love, a universal feeling of something very hard to describe but something pleasant. A feeling which is not under the threat of going to hell . @since : these posts weren't supposed to be hurtful . I choose to talk of that because I found it was an important (the most important) point in Lauryn's lyrics. Sometimes christianity appears absurd to us but we must be coherent and accept/respect all the belief (if we don't have one). I recognize that I have a problem especially with that belief so I apologize in advance if some of my words seem offensive to you.

Thank you for the apology though I like hearing about the differences in our beliefs, I just don't like to be made to feel as if mine are ridiculous. And I do agree that sometimes people can use an out of control tactic with trying to get people to believe in GOD. I really hate that too. I call those people church people NOT Christians. I love that Lauryn just gives her message and doesn't (in my opinion) try to force-feed anyone.

@ since -- how is that offensive??? slaves really did die during the middle passage, and they weren't Xtians, so when you make "offensive" remarks like "I do believe that you must believe in Jesus Christ to go to heaven" take a step back at one my ancestry and my people who were tortured, killed, raped, during slavery and were forced to accept Jesus as their savior, 2) let's get off this religion mumbo jumbo between ourselves and focus on Ms. Hill!!

How can we discuss Ms. Hill and not religion, something that permeates much of her music. That's impossible . That's like trying to discuss King, Gandhi, or Marley without mentioning how their religious views shaped their worldviews. There are billions of people in this world, and we don't all share the same views on religion. In Christianity alone, there are THOUSANDS of sectors. Now, what we can do is try to act like adults and respect each other's point of view without getting so easily offended. Your people are my people. My people are Since's people. Since's people are Ms. Hill's people. In other words, we ALL share the same history and are descendents of African slaves. Yes, African slaves were forced to accept Christianity, but Christianity was also very much instrumental in the abolition of slavery. So the name of Jesus Christ can be used to bind people (such as in Nutzz's situation ) or it can be used to free people. It's your choice to believe whatever, but some of us choose freedom .

It's offensive because you made it sound like my beliefs are ridiculous just because of that struggle. I believe everything happens for a reason and God allows some things to happen to work bring us closer to Him. Those people who did tortured slaves etc were not true Christians, in my opinion. They have not lived the Christian way and it's offensive to scoff at those of us who do. The notion that because someone tried to force someone to become a Christian means Christians and Jesus are bad is nonsense. That's almost the same thing as saying I don't trust black people because I got mugged by one. I'm not trying to make you believe in my religion and why should you make snide comments just because we don't agree on religion? I respect your opinion so respect mine. That is all.

She does sound really young. I'm in awe of her lyrical ability; "Manifest" is excellent. I think I watch her performance of that, at the end of "Ex-Factor" in Japan, a least once a day.
