I like the beat, but it probably has nothing to do with Lauryn because his tag says "Miami" and that recording session took place in Jersey.
That other clip is also not Lauryn. Here is a link to the original: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyANKltLO8k
I think she should rap and sing on her album. She's Lauryn Hill. Multi-talented. Why would you want her to pick one? Whatever the style of music, we already know she will bring it lyrically. She never misses there. imo I prefer Hip-Hop, Soul, and/or Reggae sounds myself, but she was into some kind of rock not too long ago so there's no telling where she is going with this musically.
ETA: My dream album from her would be a double cd. 1 disc would be pretty much what jimerolan suggested - aggressive/political/hip hop. The other would be geared towards relationships, singing to soul, reggae and acoustic sounds.
But I am doubtful of this double cd many of us want, and I won't be surprised to see a lot of songs we're already familiar with. lol

Yeah, I was gonna mention the Miami tag. I think a double disc might be too much. I think just a collection of maybe 14 songs would be ideal, as its more realistic. Maybe Lauryn will perform something new in Nigeria tomorrow.

I noticed the Miami tag as well, but I also saw a pic with her keyboardist with cronicles, her sound engineer ' from a few days ago which is why I thought the clip may have been from an MLH session.
I was hoping the Miami hashtag was just a nod to where her keyboardist was from or something like that lol

I agree it;s super unlikely, but this would be perfect to me, and is kinda what Badu was going for w/ the New Amerykah albums, but L is a bit more of a perfectionist I think, more focused (sound wise), there aren't so many crazy samples, digital instruments, and futuristic sounds. Plus her songs have always had more traditional structures. I think the 'rock' vibe we're talking about is probably a bit more reggae tbh, Bob Marley is like her biggest influence these days. Anyway, whatever it sounds like, one thing I am praying for is the use of live instrumentation. Digital / synth / computer-generated / overproduced / oversampled sounds have truly taken over hip hop and R&B since she left, and I was reading a Rolling Stone 'Miseducation' review the other day that praised all the natural, warm sounds that felt so much less disposable and tacky and plastic-y than the other stuff going on back then (and ESPECIALLY now). Nothing like the soulful sounds of REAL musicians playing REAL instruments, and it never sounds as dated as electronic / digital production, too. But it's been so long it's hard to know what to expect!

That initial clip sounds like Lauryn, not Jean. There's no European accent in the first one. Sounds like it was redone. Maybe he was in Miami at the time he posted it?

I stand corrected, I must've missed the accent earlier! That's not Lauryn!

Anyway, my itunes is ready for purchase... Can't believe how excited I am for this... i've literally waited 17 years! 'Deadline' is a good word to see on that instagram because it suggests it's definitely happening, no last-minute pull outs or crises. Hope it lives up to the wait, i'm trying not to have too high expectations!

So what do you guys think the album will consist of?
I hate to keep bringing up the D'Angelo album... lol But like Lauryn he waited so many years to release an album, and some of the songs on his album had been on the net for many years, yet on the album he re-worked them, made them modernize, while adding a couple new songs also. I remember when Lauryn was about to go to prison at her concert in Brooklyn, she stated she would be releasing the music that she was prevented from releasing... I think were gonna get... I had to walk, confirmed to love, Guarding the gates, Damnable Heresies ect, I know were gonna get Black Rage. I'll be surprised if Fearless Vampire Killer makes it...

Remember, she was working on Letters From Exile before she went to prison, but scrapped that project and started from scratch. I think she will release a studio album with mostly new material. Then she may release a compilation album of her unreleased music. She's been hinting at something like that since the 2011 tour.
