Soon done. Oprah source must be Cronicles. He is involved ins the sound and therefore would know when the last mix is done. Is that part of the game to have someone leak information for public consumption these days? Evidently if not firing is in order. No loyalty anymore. How much did this cost?? Nope. Who is that?

I remember someone suggesting she would just release her album out of nowhere. I didn't think it would go down that way, but after D'angelo doing it, I guess she might do it too. I wouldn't be mad! what does D'Angelo release has to do with Lauryn's album. Is it strictly coincidental or a strategy of the industry? It has a lot to do with her release due to the fact that he was away for a long period of time. Music executives can see how it sold and market Lauryn the same way, so yes it does have a lot to do with it.

This and the fact that his album was released on RCA, which is a division of Sony, which is the same company Lauryn will be releasing through.

Well so much for the marketing strategy. According to Vibes, D’Angelo, who came in at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. His surprise release, Black Messiah, moved 117,000 units, with no promotion and an announcement of the release just hours prior.

Oprah, why did you say"Soon done" do you have any news about the release? The album? A new single? An announcement? Thank you Selimtad, i love you. In the first months of 2014, you make a fuss because i posted here some of your informations about the album, originally posted on your twitter account (you posted the url of your account here), you said after that you will post your informations about the new album when you will have some time. So, since that, you posted no informations, we can see it on your profile. So, be logical: 2 possibilities: - you tell what you know about the project and so, you ask to other members informations - you tell nothing and you ask nothing I'm nice but you came here only to take informations and share it to your followers. A forum is for sharing please tell us your informations So, about me, i'm tired to wait, i wait for nothing now. I don't want to be disappointed with a possible new tour without album. I have no informations about the album... Please Ophrah, speak

Re: The D'Angelo thing, I think reaching #5 for an artist who has scarcely even been in the public eye (nevermind the 15 year gap) and selling that many albums in a busy week with no promotion is VERY impressive. One has to remember that D'Angelo was never selling nearly as many records as Lauryn / the Fugees were in the first place, and he is much more private than even L-Boogie (he's barely done any interviews)... and his was rushed out to speak to audiences at a time when Ferguson etc. were at their height. I have a feeling that prior promotion (at least a single) would be a much better option, but one can't deny that he has done pretty well with it.
One thing D'Angelo had on his side that probably helped with sales is that it was so lauded by the critics (still the highest-rated new studio album of 2014, I believe) that the industry couldn't help but talk about it, which refreshed people's memories. Obviously we've been watching and waiting for Ms. Hill, but there are going to be a lot of people, old fans, potential new fans, who will have no idea to even look out for a new album unless there's a biiit of mainstream promotion. Word of mouth can be strong, but not that strong.
Anyway, 'Black Messiah' is an absolutely phenomenal album and if one must make another connection to Lauryn, at least it proves that after a huge extended break, an artist can release timely, unique, acclaimed, and brilliant music that ranks with their best, without having become stale.

117k isn't "impressive" for an artist like him on a major label. I won't say it's a flop or an embarrassment given the current state of the industry but maybe a little disappointing.
As for reviews, press is pretty much bought and paid for these days. They are both under Sony so she would probably have the same on her side.
I think a label might have high hopes for a release from Lauryn because the potential is there. I'm not sure what her desire is at this point though. If she is looking to stay low key, she might not even want a big seller and may purposely work against that.

You're quite right about the reviews, but I still think 117k (so far) is pretty great.. I guess I just don't think of D as being as big as a lot of other people remember. He only ever had one top 10 single and it was quite literally 2 decades ago, his fanbase is strong but kind of niche as well. I personally think of him as a superstar but I can't imagine the industry still does after that short mainstream attention / TV media window circa 2000. Even Janet Jackson's latest album (released in 2008, when selling physical copies wasn't completely out yet) sold only a bit over 500k... still the #1 album, and this is from an artist that used to go diamond on the regular... but that's a pretty odd comparison! I guess the point i'm trying to make is that the industry is in shambles, and I still think 117k is a very solid sales record after a month (it will probably grow a bit as he tours).
I certainly hope they have high hopes from a Lauryn release! They should! Judging by the 'Consumerism' and 'Black Rage' style material though, they'll be wanting to choose her single for her, hahaha.

Surely that Sony deal had some clause where she HAS to release music by a certain date? I don't believe in rushing artistry but i'd be shocked if they didn't capitalise on the fact that they were throwing her a life raft by adding a contract stipulation like that, given her lack of releases.
Anyway, what songs y'all wanna hear on the record? I'd LOVE a long version of 'Damnable Heresies' with her glorious harmonies, maybe studio versions of 'Adam Lives in Theory' and 'I Gotta Find Peace of Mind', a lot of new stuff... my dream is for an epic double album like 'Songs in the Key of Life'!

I get a real strong feeling that "conformed to love" Is recorded and will most likely be on the album. The reason as to why I think this song is recorded, on her small axe tour it seemed to very well put together..
