First time I see an article which show the state of what we know (quite clearly) and without any disrespect .... hollowverse.com/lauryn-hill/

Well, she's definitely a Christian. No question about this. But her political views I always found the more interesting of the two. The article mentioned she is affiliated with Rastafari, Five Percent, Nation of Islam with the Fugees. Which always has made me wonder if Ms. Hill is an advocate of black nationalism. The Fugees also made several references to Marcus Garvey and the Black Panthers throughout their lyrics and album artwork. I sometimes wonder what is her stance on that political train of thought. I doubt she openly considers herself a proponent of any of these organizations, for sake of avoiding "boxes", but her music, recognized for its political substance as much as artistic finesse, seem to suggest someone incredibly open-minded to their ideas. Though, with a song like "Black Rage" maybe the answer to the question is slightly obvious.

I have also often wondered about her political views and was disappointed to find out recently that she probably voted for Obama, as Selah tweeted that she came into her room screaming and celebrating when he won the last election. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the other guy was any better, I just think they are all puppets and the system itself is corrupt so it doesn't matter if the President is black, white or green, but more if they speak the truth and work for the people. I'm surprised she thinks any different to be honest. And disappointed like I said. Oh well, I'll get over it! love! x

I'm disappointed emancip8urself that you could be disappointed in Lauryn for voting Obama. Black people have fought long and hard for the right to vote, and even still there were a lot of black people who didn't exercise their right to vote, until Obama came in to office. If you don't bother to vote, then you really can't complain. People are very quick to judge Obama, and call him a puppet, however if you are a minority whether that is black, Asian, or Hispanic, working class unable to afford health care, or gay, or even a woman for that matter voting for Obama means a whole lot. I'm not saying he's perfect, I'm not saying he hasn't made mistakes, and I don't agree with every decision he's made but I would much prefer to see America under a democratic government than a republican one. Lauyn's message has always been about being more politically aware and active, and voting is an integral part of that. And I'm glad she's walking her own talk!

I'm disappointed you're disappointed that I'm disappointed! I thought it was great a black man became president the first time round, I believed him the first time (naiively) thought he might be different to other politicians (was this racism?) but I have seen only evidence to the contrary. I'll stick to my original opinion that the (political) system is so corrupt that it would make it impossible for a person to do good at a high level . Then again, I am not American so my opinion doesn't count for much, and also I am a hypocrite as I vote in my own country, so i can moan about it after. Just bein honest though, I knew it wouldn't be a popular view but that's ok. I'll get over my disappointment I'm sure, and hope you do too Love! x

in all sincerity, if Lauryn was gung-ho about Obama's reelection, it is probably bcuz she lived through Bush 1 & 2 and Reagan, whose eras were drastically worse than Clinton & Obama's terms.
as much as Obama is a puppet of the banksters, he's still better than the cold-blooded republican lunatics.
Obama DID enact a few laws that help poor people, such as helping college kids, which soon may directly affect Lauryn's family.
i hear about good stuff Obama did from those who benefitted, so it wasn't like he was the SAME merciless devil as Bush was. he is a puppet, but at least he's a nice guy about it.
And it's a big deal to keep a billionaire robot man out of office, bcuz you never know how ruthless he's going to be. At least with Obama, we knew what we had. Romney was a mystery and if he repealed the Emancipaton Proclamation, NOT MANY would be surprised! That was probably why Lauryn was happy; not so much loving Barack but keeping Satan himself out of office, cuz last time republicans were in, things got awful quick.
Yes, it is a good cop/bad cop system, but nonetheless, you STILL prefer the good cop in there opposed to the mean one.
Obama is also a good look for America's race relations; think, if the 1st Black prez was a one-termer, it's a fluke, and racist are empowered by that knowledge. so if he's in 2 terms, it's a vote of confidence that America has improved.
Obama is still a Black man from a civilized city, opposed to a country bumpkin doophis out of touch with real people; so Obama is a class act, even if he is, and of course he is, a puppet.
I am aware of all the conspiratorial political shenanigans, and as an American who lived through George Bush's 8 years of Nazi despotism, i was happy Obama bgot 4 more years.

Selah also tweeted that her Mom doesn't vote... Doesn't vote (ever) or didn't vote (this time)? Maybe she can't vote. I don't know :-/she did plead guilty to the federal crime of tax evasion, which I believe is a felony. So did she lose her right to vote in the state of New Jersey? Just a thought...any legal eagles out there? Sometimes, the problem with Twitter is that people put out info without clarification.

Are you guys really quoting this women's 13/14 year old child? We can do better Lauryn did not plead guilty to a felony. She plead guilty to 3 misdemeanor counts of failure to file tax returns. She did not plead or was she charged with tax evasion. Therefore, she did not or would not lose her right to vote rather she excised it or not. All you guys have to go on is her own words related to the election. She urges her fans to exercise their right to vote, and she expressed excitement at the results. What Selah says or thinks is irrelevant.

My bad. I thought she pled guilty to tax evasion. I will have to look that up again, don't mean to spread wrong info. Yes, Guest 21, we can always do better, even you. You have given wrong info on here before, so...
That's why I asked if we have any legal eagles in the house.

She's Christian, pro-Black and a LOT deeper than y'all even know, stuff I'm sure many of you ain't never read lol. Smh @ all these ppl who don't understand the history behind why hip hop was created. I can guarantee you her next lp will more than likely focus on Black issues and unapologetically so because that's what it was designed to do.
