Actually people, in all rationality and logic, i think Lauryn HERSLEF is the one making people talk about her private life. In interviews, instead of talking about her new musical direction, the message in her songs, all she does is talk about how bad EVERYONE treated her etc... etc...like the whole world cares !!!!

if nobody cared - nobody would discuss it - but as u can see - a lot of people are inrerested in her life coz they are interested in her creativity + i can add that most of artists are really crazy BUT "that" woman looks ok if not to say more (i mean her state of mind...) and it makes people like her lol I can't understand just 1 thing - if we all here are her fans and like her music and respect her why do we doubt and always suspect something in her actions??? because now we aren't just discussing things she says in her interviews - we are gossiping, trying to find something bad or wrong in her words... why do u care about every her word??? she isn't a prophet (tho she is a role model for many people) she is just a person (tho very wise and interesting...) and WE MUST UNDERSTAND IT - u can even see it from her interviews - that she wants people not to treat her and think about her like people here DO - she said that she is a usual person, individual not something more - that in her everyday life she is like anybody else she just lives and like many other people grows P.S. (but stop! - lol - not like many other people coz most of people don't think that much about things she does... who knows - for example what do u mean saying growing? coz when Lauryn says I things like "i live, I grow" she means that she is trying to stay better while living and learn some things ... here i think that u understand her words incorrect and think that she is perfect and stuff like that. for example I don't think that she is only growing I don't know anybody who would always do only right things to grow (she can choose right way and try to stay better, really grow - and she does it as we can see - but i differ it from being saint) - here u can see again that she doesn't differ from many other people that much everybody is unique - she is just one of us a person who attracts us with her talent and deep soul ...let's respect her and not to doubt that much - let's try to look at ourselves and grow

I had the distinct honor of being at a concert Lauryn did here at The University of Georgia a couple of years ago. It was just her, a chair, and her guitar and she said that she wanted us to feel like we were in her living room talking with her. Her voice was amazing as well as the music and the CONTENT. She talked about how she use to blame all her problems and mistakes on others until she finally decided to look in the mirror and decided that she was the only one who could control her fate. She was so hard on herself, actually, that I was feeling like she was perhaps over-compensating. We all screw up, but life is about learning and growing. Kudos to Lauryn for trying to make a change, though I think she is still in need of maybe a mentor who can help her keep it in the middle instead of going from one extreme to another. On another note, I, too was disappointed with the article because the prologue acts like the article is going to be about the reuniting of the Fugees, but clearly it is not. Also, this is the second time that I have been disappointed by Essence for pointing out things about their interviewees that I find completely irrelevant to the issue at hand. The first time, it was an article about Alicia Keys. The article was very well written and informative, but out of nowhere, the writer decides to add a quick paragraph about how Alicia Keys is not ashamed of her well-endowed, Black woman backside. The statement was completely out of context and rather tacky. The article in no way talked about Alicia Keys' body and it was just uncalled for. In this article, the writer throws in that Lauryn "bore not one, but four of Reggae legend Bob Marley's grandchildren." I find that statement completely unecessary in the list of what makes Lauryn great. Why not, she has bore four children and is a devoted mother, etc. As much as we love Bob Marley, does it make her having four kids more important because they're Bob's grands?

I've read most of your comments, and have had to post a message of support for Ms hill. Not one of us , have yet and are not likley to experience the trials and tribulation of a wise black and beautiful woman, in today's hypocritical western culture. There are many people who claim to love lauryn hill and all that she has achieved but i feel most of these people know nothing of the woman at all and are seduced by the music and voice and melody rather than the teaching she offers. Ms hill is not perfect but what she is , is truthful, she is everevolvig and learning new things, this lady carries on her shoulders the hopes of every black woman out there, she is iconic, media portray her as radical and aggresive because they are in fear of her. She is a powerful woman who has infected many peoples hearts. She is plagued by conspiriacy to help kill her message. Ms hill has given alot to our world in, motivation, faith belief and the meaning of love, and at all stages she says this through her own eyes and words, and not those forced upon her by society.

There is no doubt about Lauryn Hill's talent.....to me she is the best female mc to have ever come along! But something is quite obviously not right with her now days, look at her eyes in those pictures......she looks kinda crazy now. And as has already been stated, she acts like she's a God or something and she isn't, she is a highly talented HUMAN! I am not dissing "Ms. Hill" but she needs to realize that her fans are the ones who put her where she is at and with her leaving people hanging at concerts (more than one, including one here in ATL) she is showing disrespect to those people.

WHY do people hate or rather are uncomfortable with a woman who accepts and owns her beauty and wisdom. I find that people now adays are to afraid to do so, due to lack in self confindence and modesty. What is wrong with saying "yes I am beautiful and wise, I know that." We are looking at woman who is growing up in the spotlight. Everyone goes through self-examination and transformation except the average person goes through it in private. But I don't think it is just about the music like some say, Lauryn's music is an extention of her thoughts, her life, she is no remy or trina or beyonce she don't make hits. Music is much more intricate than that. As for her look I don't care for it its like going backward, but I feel her on how she feels about seeing her look everywhere.

Lauryn could have completed the greatest errors of the world, but unlike others has recognized him these errors!!! be my idol with Stevie Wonder, I love him both in the same way even if opposite feelings inspire me, I am one fan of his and I think that I will remain forever it!!! as not to forget herself of her magnificent execution in the film Siste Act 2 accompanied by a magnificent Whoopie Goldberg.... w Lauryn! ....... bye

i think some folk missed my point. I never said Lauryn stopped giving love completely and has become some angry bitter evil person. I merely spoke on extremes. This is fact. love is a catalyst. A person searching for love has many characteristics. I think she's begun to love cautiously and it's hard to trust when trust is broken so this slow return to the public is an example of that. You've read the interviews. The response to the media attention, the exploitation of her fashion, the bad relationships, the outright telling a woman "i don't like to be touched", it's a healing process she going through. And YES this dicussion has everything to do with her music. She is an honest artist who wears her heart on her musical sleeve like Mary J. and we see her inner struggles and triumphs through her music and performances and musical motivation. This is not a negative thing. We should always keep growing as people. She is growing before our eyes. Anytime you listen to Lauryn you get a glimpse into her heart and soul. That's basically it. i'm done

All the silliness she talks is what happens to people when they take themselves way too seriously. I think her interviews would be better if she conducted them naked and shiny.
