They should respect his wishes and not talk about it - whatever it is that he helped her with

That's private information and it should've remained that way. I can understand him wanting to release some info on company based initiatives, but other people's personal information...no...not a good look imo.
ETA: to the poster below, I thought it was quite shady too. Just odd...I agree with some of what you wrote.

this sounds contrived
This guy came on TV with fake spontaneity, crocodile tears. this whole interview was ACTING.
So the ? is WHY?
What are they really setting Lauryn Hill up for with this interview?
It was obviously intended to force-feed her enigmatic problems into the spotlight
But coming from a White House pal of Al Gore, one wonders what they really planting in people's minds. {When the son of Perdition is Commander in Chief, Brethren would they candidly speak?}
This seems like a subtle hit-piece on Lauryn Hill. Using Prince's passing as an excuse to bring her name up in a shady way. To plant her name into the public, tied to Prince's death.
To plant her name in the public at a moment that has nothing to do with her. Bringing her up now is INTENTIONAL. Not spontaneous.
I feel this interview is part of a public storyline that will be crafted to promote/malign Lauryn Hill's career in a manipulative way, leading some people to believe negatively about her, while leading others to empathize.
It will definitely be used to fuel the race division they pushing in media now. They want to make sure whites have a sour taste for Hill, which obviously won't affect blacks - who her music will resonate with. They did this before with the Howard Stern rumor. They turned whites against her.
They gonna do it again, I believe. That will desirably polarize the races in line for the racial strife they pushing hard in the media currently to divert from government corruption.
This interview sounded like a storyline being set up for public consumption.
The "Lauryn's crazy" angle will be furthered by this, no doubt about it. This will divide the minds of those favorable to Lauryn Hill. They "love her - but she's crazy," is the seed being planted.
Lastly, I believe this interview MAY be a sly intimidation tactic!
Talking about Prince's death and saying "Where are her kids?" hmm
Knowing how Lauryn's gonna read that, if only unconsciously! This was likely a mixture of intimidation while setting the stage for slander.

I don't see how this makes her look crazy at all. Everyone already knows she had to go to prison.
Lauryn's brother posted this same clip on his facebook page and said he was thankful to Prince. I don't think he would've done that if it were bothersome to her.

I don't think he would've done that if it were bothersome to her. Of course since Prince helped they'd be grateful, BUT that DOESN'T excuse the sinisterness of putting that story on blast! It's a set-up. It's planting seeds. In the future they will turn "Lauryn was in danger" into "Lauryn's been paranoid for a while now."It was completely unnecessary to inject Ms. Hill's turmoil into this. It was either self-serving (name-dropping) or it was chicanerous. Lauryn's bro might not have saw thru the crocodile tears. He may have been reluctant to believe there's evil people (Van Jones) who would set his sister up for future defamation. But nonetheless, this revelation was shady, and thoroughly unnecessary. Of all Prince's good deeds he gonna put Hill's desperation on blast? That's not a friend.

I will admit that it was odd that her name was dropped. If Prince did all this in secret, there must have been a reason? I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I feel like prince knew what was up. He spoke out against the industry time and time again-- just like Michael Jackson.

I too agree it was unnecessary and imo not something a true friend would do (that's way too personal to release for both Prince and Lauryn), now if it were something already out there, that'd be different. Everyone knows how shady the music business is and Lauryn has exposed a LOT in regard to this, but IDK, something didn't seem right with what he did.

Bottom line - it's not his place to share this story. He went way overboard

I just don't see why some of you say it makes her look bad in some way to say that Prince reached out to her. If not for Prince not wanting it shared, Lauryn likely would've acknowledged him in the same manner she mentioned Stevie Wonder at the time. I don't know the extent of their relationship, but I've read more than one account of him being spotted at her shows.
I felt this man was name dropping to try and put a face to Prince's good deeds. I agree it was random, but hopefully that's all it was.

@umm Guest, i am with you on this one. This guy does not seem pretentious at all he was very close to Prince and obviously wants people to remember him as a great humanitarian as well. The Lauryn Hill reference seems very random and obviously name dropping, which is not as bad as people make it out to be. I am really not surprised that Prince helped Lauryn, i have read so many interviews that Prince was really fond of her back in the day and has been seen attending her concerts in recent years. Good people let’s hope this guy is genuine and let’s stop the negativity, until something bad transpires after this.

It'd be different if he had told the story without mentioning her name, I wouldn't be as suspect because at least he's not revealing who it is. I still wouldn't have released that kind of info anyway, but to release WITH a name, just no...you don't do that. TO ME, that would've been something Lauryn would need to mention. It's her business (and Prince's). He ain't have to mention alladat to showcase Prince's humanitarianism. He was doing just fine with releasing the information regarding the tech companies etc. He could've easily stated that he's also helped out many in the industry, without mentioning names, jmo on it. Have a good one y'all.

I agree AinA. I am not sure why he felt so compelled to blurt that out. Maybe he was on the verge of saying something more and then felt the need to stop. I feel like some shady stuff happens. Remember quotes from Lauryn's band members from years back when Lauryn was saying "they tried to kill me" and also when she got arrested saying " she stayed in hiding in order to keep her family safe" some shady stuff out there man. And Prince just ends up dead.

@aina, i understand where you are coming from, but at the moment there is nothing we can do he has mentioned her already. Lets keep it positive since Lauryn Hill's brother posted the video on his Facebook. I really have to say this, Lauryn Hill's brother is as educated and articulate as Lauryn is very impressed.

She expounded on it (with much needed clarification). There were articles insinuating all kinds of stuff, trynna extrapolate what he meant lol. That's why it's important to not release other people's personal information.
RIP Prince Rogers Nelson June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016 I want to make mention of how both Prince and Stevie Wonder, separately but of similar Spirit, reached out to me when I was being sent to Danbury Federal Correctional Institution, both inquiring and desiring to help. I am grateful to them both for their compassion and movement to action. RIP Prince, blazingly bright and gifted soul, virtuoso, humanitarian, Lover of Love---we are grateful to you for your music, your gifts and courageous fight for creative freedom. MLH
