REVIEW:

Ok just got home and I'm nackered. Also my writing skills and memory really are crap so forgive me for the following review.
First of all she came on at like 9.20! thats like, completley normal. Every gig ive ever been to the band have been on at 9-9.30. So thanks Ms Hill for getting your ****ing time keeping skills in order, ha.
There was no support, just a DJ, but there wasn't really any need for a support really.
The band came out (let me just say, this band were absoloutly incredible!) and started jamming for a while. Then Lauryn came out and sang heathen.
Her voice and technique were to be expected. Raspy and shouty. i was prepared for it but alot of the audience wasn't. The first half of the show wasn't very good.
She was extremley energetic but It was as though it was a Bob Marley concert with a few Lauryn Hill covers thrown in. IMO She sang way too many Bob tunes. Even when she sang her own songs they ended up leading into a Bob song. People were shouting 'WE CAME TO SEE LAURYN HILL' etc. Although she did sing 'Guarding the gates' over a bob tune.
I don't think it would have been that bad if her voice was not as raspy as it was, but it was. VERY. Also people were getting really confused as to why she wouldn't just SING the songs rather than shout her arse off.
I was really disapointed with ExFactor aswell. Even though I knew she'd scream the **** out of the song, I was still hoping she'd stand still and just SING. but she didnt.
At one point some guy through a bottle top at her so she stood still and stared blankly in his face while shouting some song. If I was him I would have **** myself.
Anyway halfway through she walks off stage and the band start jamming 'When it hurts so bad' for about 10 mins. Im stood there like 'seriously where she gone?'. I was really hoping that she hadn't just got pissed off and walked off for some reason. This is where the gig suddenly got 10x better (lol no not because she was off stage).
She came back on. I'm guessing she went off to rest her voice as when she came back she sang 'The first time ever I saw your face'. I was waiting for this performance so I could record it. I figured it was the only performance worth recording.. I apologise for the quality and my 'Woo's':

as usual it was incredible. Her voice was of course raspy but yet again she pulled it off.
After this song she started on the fugees material. The crowd was really hyped up at this point. Kinda like 'FINALLY Something we recognise and can jump to'. Also its the fugees songs where Lauryn can jump around as much as she want and sound ****ty while singing the hooks and get away with it. But I must admit, this was the point where I was like 'WOAH this is amazing'.
After that the whole atmosphere changed. It was sometimes a little cringe worthy to stand in the audience while she screamed the **** out of her songs, but now everyone was smiling and jumping and stuff so it was ace.
She did an Encore of everything is everything, Will you still love me tommorow, Lose Myself, and Doo Wop.
Overall I really enjoyed the concert. But the same things apply, she just needs to rest her damn voice or stop straining it by screaming.
The first half of the concert was kinda like listenin to an album you've never heard for the first time, or going to a gig by someone you've never heard of.
The second half was charged up Ms Hill where it didn't matter if her voice was **** because she worked the crowd and made them HYPE.
Although it was a mixed reaction. A conversation I heard on the trian home with a few girls talking about the concert summed it up.
GIRL 1: I really hated it.
GIRL 2: How can you say that? Her voice was crap but I can't walk out of there and say 'that was ****'...
GIRL 1: But she didn't even sing anything, she was just shouting. AND I went to see Lauryn Hill, not Bob Marley
GIRL 2: The guy said at the begginning that her voice was hoarse, but she was an amazing performer, she was captivating to watch.
GIRL 1: MEH
GIRL 2: MEH

PS Sorry if this was a complete balls up of a review but meh
