(BAD) REVIEW:
She’s not only got an arsenal of tunes, she’s also got an air of mystery. Where has she been for the last 10 years, and why is she recording songs for a film about surfing penguins? We still don’t know, as she refused all interview requests. But one thing’s for sure – this is the gig of the weekend. Support comes from Karl Wolf and local DJs Dany Neville and Bliss.

Lauryn Hill was coming to Dubai and I didn't wan to miss that and bought tickets for us and Tom as well. The doors were opening already at 19.00hrs and we also needed to eat something first. Tom came to our place and Hans picked us up after work and we drove to the Madinat.
I paid the tickets via the internet and were collectable at the entrance. So we collected the tickets and went to one of Madinat's restaurants to have a quick bite. Lauryn Hill was performing that night, but she was going to start her concert at 21.30hr. Thus enough time and we'd planned to be there at around 20.30hr.
Thus we had some food, in the Madinat, and went in at 20.30hr to see the concert. Almost right away Karl Wolf was having his show. Initially we did not know him, but after listening to his songs we did recognise a few of them. He was really good and everybody danced away. What I liked about him was his diversity in songs and music.
Did they arrange both to wear a red shirt...
Than there were those 2 guys, I had already spoken with them outside and inside I saw them again. They were having so much fun and were taking photos of people, incl. mine. hahahaha. So, I took one of them too.
Ok, Karl Wolf finished his show and now it was time for Lauryn Hill, at 21.30hr. Every 15 minutes they announced her, but she wasn't coming. After one hour she still was not there... And as a surprise we saw Monique and Fred also coming in the arena. We had some chats and we were becoming quit annoyed by the fact that Lauryn Hill still didn't show up after 1,5 hour. Hans was ready to leave, as he rightly said that it is very arrogant to let people, who pay and visit your concert, wait this long. But despite the Dsc01893_small_1 fact that Hans was right I wanted to wait anyway.
Thus..... finally after waiting for 2 hours she came on stage, we were told 10 minutes before that she was waiting untill the arena was completely full....
Already during her first song we were shocked. What was this? Ok, let's wait, maybe we just don't like this song. But the 2nd, 3rd and 4th song they were as awful as the 1st song. We were looking at eachother.... do we want to listen to this?? So finally at the 4th song we decided to leave, Tom, Hans and me. Monique and Fred were at the front of the arena, they bought a different ticket, while we just had the 'regular standing' ticket, so we are not sure whether they staid till the end or not.
The moment before we had left a lot of people seemed to be very very disappointed by her concert and many people left already.
I can not explain why we all found the concert so horrible, but I did not like her singing, she had changed all the songs into very wild and awful songs. I can't explain it.. But I have never ever left a concert in an early stage before.
Just before we went to the concert Marco told me about the bad critics which came from the states, all her concerts seemed to be a total disappointment to all of her fans. We even saw the media and photographers leave after a few songs...... What it this..?? Seemingy we expected something completely different. If you know her cd 'The miseduction of Lauryn Hill' you would never expect this kind of performance. And it was not a matter of not being open to something new, it was just terrible.
