TORONTO, July 26 /CNW/ - ONE X ONE Foundation, a charitable organization
committed to fighting poverty and preserving the lives of children in Canada
and around the world, announced today that Academy Award® winner Matt Damon
will return to host the third annual ONE X ONE benefit gala in Toronto on
Sunday, September 9, 2007.
ONE X ONE supports charities in Canada and on a global level, whose work
is to help create a world where children can live in safety and with dignity,
including H2O Africa Foundation, Yéle Haiti, Assembly of First Nations, Heroes
Project, Healthy Kids International, Free The Children, War Child Canada,
Right to Play, the African Children's Choir, Millennium Promise, Child Find
Ontario and Spread the Net. Last year's gala raised over $3.5 million and
since the foundation's 2005 inception, ONE X ONE has raised more than
$5 million. ONE X ONE 2007, which takes place at the Four Seasons Centre for the
Performing Arts on September 9th, 2007, under the musical leadership of
Grammy® Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Wyclef Jean, will feature
performances by Grammy® Award winner Shakira, ONE X ONE Ambassador and
Montreal singing sensation Nikki Yanofsky, the African Children's Choir and
many others.
This year the organization will be honouring Golden Globe Award winner
Richard Gere, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, Assembly of First Nations
National Chief Phil Fontaine and supermodel and philanthropist Petra Nemcova
with the 2007 Difference Award. These awards are presented annually and
recognize individuals who have dedicated their lives to fighting child poverty
and suffering around the world. ONE X ONE will also honour Wyclef Jean with a
special American Express humanitarian award for his commitment to providing
aid, resources and inspiration in his native country through the Yéle Haiti
movement.
Additional honouress include 'Running the Sahara' ultra-endurance
athletes Charlie Engle, Ray Zahab and Kevin Lin who became the first modern
runners to cross the Sahara Dessert to raise awareness for H2O Africa, a clean
water initiative founded by Matt Damon and his partners at LivePlanet that
highlights the water crises in Africa and gathers support for clean water
programs in critical areas; and Fred and Bonnie Cappuccino, the parents of 21
adopted children and founders of Child Haven International, an organization
that assists 600 kids in need of food, education, healthcare, shelter and
clothing in four countries around the globe.
Advance tickets to the ONE X ONE 2007 gala are available to American
Express® Cardmembers through the Front Of The Line® program today through
July 31. Beginning August 1, the general public can purchase tickets by
calling (416) 363-8231. All proceeds raised go to the ONE X ONE Foundation.
