The King's back...again...
Rapper T.I. took the Billboard album chart by storm this week, as his fifth album, T.I. Vs. T.I.P. soared to the #1 spot following a whopping 468,000 in sales. The record follows 2006's King, which also debuted at #1, certifying gold in its first week. The second single, "You Know What It Is" featuring Wyclef Jean, recently entered the Billboard singles chart. Its predecessor, "Big Things Poppin' (Do It)", reached #11.
Last week's Top 3 all shifted down a notch thanks to T.I.. In its second week, Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, the soundtrack and debut for the TV show's star, fell from the top spot to #2, managing to move an impressive 188,000 more copies. Kelly Clarkson's My December also fell from #2 to #3 in its second week and was the last of the records to move over 100,000 unites in the period. Former #1 Lost Highway, by Bon Jovi, slipped a notch to #4, holding reasonably tight in its third week.
Rock supergroup Velvet Revolver claimed the second highest debut spot this week, shifting 92,000 copies of their second record Libertad to claim the #5 spot. The sales were a bit disappointing compared to the band's debut, which sold over 250,000 copies in its first week back in 2004. VR is set to kick off a summer tour beginning in August, beginning with a set at the Virgin Festival in Baltimore, Maryland.
R&B singer and Destiny's Child alumn Kelly Rowland debuted strong at #6 this week with her second outing, Ms. Kelly. It's her first album since 2002's Simply Deep, which peaked at #12. The first single from that album, "Like This" featuring Eve, recently topped both the R&B/Hip-Hop and Hot Singles chart.
Country star Brad Paisley is still hanging in there with 5th Gear. The Arista Nashville set comes in at #7 this week, falling from #5. Amy Winehouse's Back To Black continues its longevity, slipping from last week's pinnacle of #6 to #8 after a slight sales decrease. Former #1 Minutes To Midnight by Linkin Park kept its sales up, though it fell from #8 to #9, and The White Stripes experience the steepest positional drop within the Top 10 as Icky Thump falls from #4 to #10 in its third week.
