You know one day I was on the interstate speeding and low and behold the state trooper pulled me over and gave me a ticket. There were many that were speeding, though I was one of those randomly pulled over. My initial thought was I was doing about 80 and there were cars passing me as though I was sitting still. Needless to say, when I was caught I wanted everyone else that was speeding to suffer the same fate that I did.
Though I somewhat sympathize with the women that are incarcerated, the larger question is when does sin become so distasteful that we stop and repent from it? Unfortunately, it’s usually only after we are confronted or worst caught. Now instead of repenting we do like John did when Jesus told him all the things he would suffer instead of him looking to see what should be his position in light of what he had just heard; he asked Jesus “What about him?” referring to John, “What shall befall him?”(John 21:18-22)
We seem to be alright as long as someone is in the same boat. However, this does not lead to what Jesus died for that is true repentance. Instead this generation has a victim mentality.
True repentance deals with a change of heart and mind. When we understand who we are truly sinning against, we turn to Jesus and asked the one who died for our sin for His forgiveness and purpose to walk according to his word. However as long as there is a spirit of self- righteousness and blame there will not be true repentance. We have to face our sin and agree that it is what God call it sin or to disobey what God has established as wrongdoing.
In closing, because each of us has God breath, His Spirit warns us when we are doing wrong. Most time we choose to ignore it by saying “something told me to stop or not to do it or go there,” but we ignore the warning(s). God is so merciful that He will usually give us multiple warnings before His wrath falls. He tells us in His word:
Roman 13:3-4 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid }; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to [execute] wrath upon him that doeth evil.
