String Cheese Incident Welcomes Ms. Lauryn Hill At Electric Forest
by admin June 29, 2014
One of the more intriguing pairings of the festival season took place last night at the
Electric Forest festival in Rothbury, MI; where The String Cheese
Incident teamed up with vocalist Ms. Lauryn Hill. Hill guested with the band for most of their second
set of the day as well as the encore.
The Colorado jam act started with a set of their own that included a cover of “Birdland”
by Weather Report. String Cheese returned for the second set with two guest-less originals
- “Outside and Inside” and “Valley of the Jig.” Hill then joined in for the rest of the
closing stanza. The former Fugees member led the band through a mix of covers and songs
from her time in the hip-hop act. Among the tunes The Ms. Lauryn Hill Incident performed
were Stevie Wonder’s “For One In My Life” and “Master Blaster (Jammin’),” The Beatles’
“Something” and Aretha Franklin’s “I Never Loved A Man The Way I Loved You.” Bob Marley
was well represented by takes on “Don’t Rock My Boat,” “Is This Love” and the “Could You
Be Loved” encore. Lauryn and String Cheese also tackled “Fu-Gee-La,” “Killing Me Softly”
and “Ready Or Not,” which were each hits for The Fugees in the ’90s.
Take a look at the setlist from SCI’s Saturday at Electric Forest:
Set One: Beautiful, Looking Glass > Birdland, You’ve Got the World, Sirens, Just One
Story
Set Two: Outside and Inside, Valley of the Jig, For Once In My Life*, I Never Loved a Man
the Way I Loved You*, Something*, Master Blaster (Jammin’)*, Don’t Rock My Boat*, Is This
Love*, Fu-Gee-La*, Killing Me Softly*, Ready or Not*
Encore: Could You Be Loved*
* – with Lauryn Hill
