Her look alone deserves applause! Nice! I gotta hurry and get my ticket for her MD show! She keeps SLAYING these live shows; they will sell out and I'll have to break my "If Lauryn is within a 3 hour radius I must go", rule!

She keeps SLAYING these live shows; they will sell out and I'll have to break my "If Lauryn is within a 3 hour radius I must go", rule! The reviews were really good... a lot of people were shocked Lauryn showed up, and had a structured show. Most thought Lauryn was gonna come on and her set be a mess. The general perception of Lauryn is changing....

Lauryn Hill proves she's still got it By Joey Guerra June 2, 2014 Jorge Valdez Lauryn Hill s Sunday set at the Free Press Summer Festival Lauryn Hill's Sunday set at the Free Press Summer Festival earned lots of buzz weeks before she even stepped on stage - for a few wrong reasons. After becoming a star in the '90s with the Fugees and releasing a modern classic of her own - 1998's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" - Hill dropped out of sight. She reappeared in recent years for reasons that had nothing to do with her music. Erratic behavior plagued live performances. And Hill pleaded guilty in 2012 to tax evasion and served a three-month prison sentence. All fears were calmed, however, as soon as Hill stepped on stage Sunday and launched into the Roberta Flack standard "Killing Me Softly." Her performance was spirited, soulful and - more than anything else - jubilant. She seemed to be having a great time, and that energy coursed through the crowd. Fans danced. They sang along. They smiled and cheered. It was proof that, if she really wanted to, Hill could still be a major musical force. "I'm not playin', Houston. I'm not playin'," Hill teased at one point. Indeed, she was not. Her pacing and energy were at 100 percent from the beginning, and they never lagged. She still looks beautiful and sported a '60s-inspired, mixed-pattern top and skirt, along with a sheer black undershirt and white go-go boots. She filled her set with cuts from "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," which still pulses with urgency: "Everything Is Everything," "To Zion," "Ex-Factor," "Doo Wop (That Thing)." The arrangements were reworked, giving the set a sense of newness. She also ripped through a few Fugees tunes, including "Fu-Gee-La," "Ready or Not" and the updated "Killing Me Softly." Hill is still a fierce, formidable rapper and could easily challenge any female MC currently in the game. The only downside? Her show ended much too soon. www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/music/article/Lauryn-Hill-proves-she-s-still-got-it-5523410.php#/2

And how would you explain multiple generations chanting in unison to nearly two-decade old Fugees songs with Ms. Lauryn Hill? At 39 years old and many years removed from any new hip-hop conversations, her performance at Mars stage needed to be tight, energizing, and relevant in order to go against the garage punk of The Kills and the neo-Americana of Drew Holcolmb and the Neighbors at that 5 p.m. time slot. Hill brought it with all the bravado and confidence required of the veteran diva that she is, and in doing so, successfully won a large percentage of Sunday's attendees to her stage. Source
