Since there's no UK dates yet, I may have to get a New Orleans ticket! (After I check my timetable for university). I'm so excited to hear black rage

I must say "Black Rage" is an interesting title, but instead of dissecting the title too much, maybe we should just listen to her personal statement released regarding the tour: "I've been a long standing rebel against the stale, over commoditization. As artists we have opportunity to help the public evolve, raise consciousness and awareness, teach, heal, enlighten and inspire in ways the democratic process may not be able to touch."
Also, her last twitter statement was very clear that she feels she has been a victim of Racism and other injustices. I don't believe the tour title or any of her statements are made with the intention of causing controversy or division. If you listen to her Unplugged CD, before the song "Rebel" she is deeply concerned about the effects of the song if people receive her message in the wrong context.
The bottom line is that she is calling the tour and single "Black Rage" because it is a true expression of her current state of mind. If anything I believe her stance is similar to the book "Black Rage"published over 40 years ago. Here is a synopsis of that book:
"Black Rage tells of the insidious effects of the heritage of slavery; describes love, marriage, and the family; addresses the sexual myths and fears of blacks and whites; chronicles how the schools fail the black child; examines mental illness among black people and the psychic stresses engendered by discrimination; and, finally, focuses on the miasma of racial hatred that envelops this country, why it exists, and what will surely happen if it is not soon dispelled."
To be young, gifted, and black is a real concern in this country. It is a conversation worth having. When you add female to that list, I'm sure it brings another level of complexity. As a nation, we run from this reality, but it appears that it is a conversation Lauryn is ready to tackle - not to spark controversy, division, and rebellion, but to bring about healing. I now understand why the record company rejected her music if her content included these sort of themes. From a marketing perspective, I'm sure they believed she would lose a chunk of her fans and it plays into that ridiculous rumor that has been out there that she is a racist.
If she is in a space where she can now freely express herself as an artist, that is great! I believe at the heart of every artist is that desire to be true to yourself without compromise. It seems like she is going down a path similar to Nina Simone and Bob Marley, which we know from her music are people she has great respect for. Whatever the case may be, I'm just happy that she is making music again! With everything she has been through in recent years, I'm happy to know that she will finally be able to tell her story in a way that heals her. I'm rooting for her success! God knows, the music world needs her.

I think Ruffhouse Records being reassembled has a lot to do with her recent success with live performances and so I'm not worried about it. What does concern me is the state of what currently passes for media. No one investigates, or invests in finding out the truth so if the wave of negativity that I expect to come her way does hit the net, the story is likely to be recycled and propagated without thought or care for the truth. We as supporters should start thinking of ways to counteract this now. I would start a blog, but I know that it would be extremely difficult to drive significant traffic, so I have been thinking that maybe some of the more prolific writers on the forum could compose short editorials, breaking down the truth, and email them to some of the less ignorant websites and blogs. NicoleBitchie has tended to be very favorable to Ms. Hill and gets decent traffic, also Concrete Loop, and a few others. Wyclef has hit the Campaign trail, I say we do the same. Tell me what you guys think. "some of the less ignorant websites and blogs." Less ignorant is still ignorant. My rule of thumb for now on is: If Ms. Hill doesn't feel like she needs to explain herself, then I'm good; besides most people are not interested in the truth because they already have an idea of who they think Ms. Hill is. That's why I come here to discuss and share with like-minded people.

I loved that puppy.
IN OTHER news, what happened to my avatar? I designed that smiley myself, I feel it gave just the right amount of skepticism, mixed with confused indignation and just the right amount of shade. Bring back Smiley McShade

I just wish people would stop labeling Ms Hill as this MILITANT black woman Ms Hill is a proud intelligent woman who care about injustice in the world. I happen to know the Hill family and my nieces and nephews are very close to her children. I am a Jewish man and her kids have all been to my family bar mitzvahs and Ms Hill happen to be very close to actor Zach Braff who grew up in our community. She is someone very proud of her culture and i wish people would stop being afraid of that if she speaking out about prejudices that go on in the music industry i am glad she's bringing it to the forefront ! I love and respect this woman and her family. Glad to hear you speak up fir the sister, BUT.... Militant simply means you are willing to die for what you believe. A good parent is willing to die for his/her child, for example. Being militant means you will sacrifice for a cause bigger than yourself. I wish people knew that "militant" is not a bad word or thing to be! It is great to have morals that you stand by!!! The core of what is wrong with Americans is that they have no cause to champion, they are often mere consumers with no morals compass or passions except gettin money! He who stands for nothing.... The word gets a bad rap in the US because being militant would cause problems within the style of capitalism we practice here.
