I just returned from my job huge surprise !! Thank you so mutch lovelh Thank you so mutch The miseducation of Lauryn Hill How long has it been since we last heard this song live? 5 years? 6 years? lol. Love those last two notes ("Oooowwwnnn, destinnyyyyy"). The band did great too. Which reminds me, leave the BAND ALONE, Lauryn. They know what they're doing. I don't mean to sound negative, but it is very frustrating when she keeps missing or half-assing her notes because she feels compelled to constantly correct the band. Focus on YOU, Lauryn. Maybe Ras Baraka or someone else should join her and direct the band while she's singing like they did on the Miseducation tour. She missed all my favorite notes. .. How long has it been since we last heard this song live? 5 years? 6 years?.. hello essence if she sings The miseducation of Lauryn Hill in a smaller concert hall With Her Public this will be a great time i hope this moment impatient

That was AMAZING, especially the ending. I think this is one of those few instances, IMO, where her rearrangement actually surpasses the quality of the original. This sort of reminded me of the 'Chances Are' performance on Jimmy Fallon. Her voice wasn't 100% or "there" on either of them, but you can still feel her passion and soul. This is a treat! Co-signed. it was really beautiful.

I would have preferred that she did not change and remains on the original version

I would have preferred that she did not change and remains on the original version Yeah, I absolutely adore the band, the background singers and the arrangement of the song. It's not radically different at all. It's the same thing a live band would do to a song with the chord progressions and the movements. You can tell that she really put some thought into the band and singers roles in the song and feeling and it just works wonderfully. My only gripe is I wished that her voice was much better. I can get used to it like I did for "Chances Are" but I really don't want to hear Janis Joplin-ish rasp on the song. I really wanted to hear a gentle croon built to a soulful belt.

I love the music arrangement and what the band is doing but it frustrates me that Lauryn tends to sing completely different melodies on her songs, often doing runs an octave higher which really puts a strain on her voice. I get that she gets bored with the old stuff but 'Tell Him' is not a song she plays live often, if at all in the past.

Well, the honest truth is...she has to change the melody to sing up the octave because the original is too low for her after she's been belting at the top of her range the entire night. For her to sing the original keys and original melody lines from the CD, she would have to pace herself and not over-sing the songs possibly sacrificing the energy that we see from her onstage. Some would say that she probably lost the energy anyway, but it makes a difference because I'm sure you will see her uncomfortable on stage. Whenever she does attempt to sing the original lines, her voice gives out.

Whenever she does attempt to sing the original lines, her voice gives out. She definitely still has the energy, but I wish she could find a balance between bringing that stage presence and being able to really deliver vocally. When she gets hype, she tends to rush all her words and that in my opinion really takes away from the beauty of the slower songs. I know she is definitely still capable of singing in a lower key in the studio, as evident in her verses on 'So High' and 'Close to you'. I just wish she could bring that vocal ability to her live performances as well.
