Ok this is a generalization but a perception is a perception and BK incident only served to entrench it further.
Sorry to keep bringing up the negative especially after her last 2 performances that were well received. The Brooklyn incident has people up in arms and some industry people are throwing in their 2 cents worth. I picked up a comment from someone supposedly connected to the industry:
Please.......the public is just starting to get a whiff of who Ms. Hill has morphed into........believe that! While she's talented, chick is arrogant and has developed quite the reputation inside the industry. People whisper about it all the time. As far as her "sacrificing" her 20's...........I see it differently.
I PERSONALLY know background singers and musicians who have played/sang with her whom say that she doesn't want to pay her band saying that they should be paying HER for the "privilege" of playing with HER.............smh. I don't care how big you ever get as a star, you have to always remember that no man is an island unto himself and nobody gets to where they are in life by themselves. Whether creatively or professionally, when you have people who are willing to lend their time and talent towards helping further you and your career, they DESERVE to be paid because they are an asset to you and what you do. As she becomes more and more integrated back into music, expect to hear more and more stories like this.......this is only the beginning........
Honestly it just seems that she's made a lot of enemies over the years and alienated herself from the people who can help her put out music. So is this "arrogant" Lauryn the real Lauryn that she kept suppressed during the Mised days? I remember during the Fugees era, she was quite political and "militant" often saying some controversial stuff (e.g. her comments on race relations in America). During Mised her image become soft and wholesome - was this deliberate? Otherwise how can one's personality change so drastically?
At this rate she's in danger of becoming the next Kanye West - hailed as a musical genius but also the biggest douche bag in the world. His album is not doing too well and all because of the backlash from the Taylor Swift incident.
2011 will be an interesting year and until she puts out new music, it will be a nervous one for us as her fans
