wow would have loved to hear Sweetest thing! The one good thing about Rock the Bells concerts is that Lauryn seems to have "loosened up" allowing interviews, posing with fans and even embracing other artists. It seems like she's slowly embracing the industry again - hugging all those big stars on Saturday was a big deal and performing with Nas was an even bigger deal (does anyone have a video of this performance?). I smell a couple of collabos in the near future - wouldn't it be incredible to have a Nas, Lauryn, Jay Z song, produced by Swizz or Kanye? To me it seems she's coming back with an open mind to work with other people and that can only improve her musically
By the way some industry insider on a separate board stated that Lauryn is not allowed to perform her songs as they were recorded because she still owes Columbia something - It seems they own the rights to her music until she fulfills whatever obligation. The only way around it is to perform them differently to the point they are unrecognisable. Dave Chappelle said the same thing when he was introducing the Fugees at Block Party in 2005. If its true it makes sense, I mean look at the sound check clips in Portugal where she is rehearsing The Passion - the arrangement there was classic Lauryn - laid-back and smooth.
All I'm saying people shouldn't count her out

Lauryn can perform the songs however she likes. She addressed this in an interview once. The thing is she does not want to perform them in the original format. I think she is still bitter about the circumstances around that album. Her music director on her last tour said in a recent interview that people need to understand that she will NEVER perform the songs in the original form again.
Also, Columbia's issue is with copyright and the distribution of the music. They did not want the songs featured in the film, but she did perform "Lost Ones" at the actual blockparty. It was just not included in the film. The fugee songs were allowed in the film, but they were not allowed to be included on the soundtrack along with Kanye's "Jesus Walk".
I read an interview with Nas on Friday were he said he is releasing "Distant Relatives II" and Lauryn is included on it.

I finally saw the performance where Lauryn brings out a lot of stars. I think it's great and I don't think anyone felt awkward I feel like they just didn't want to impose on her set (even if she wanted them to.) I don't think it matters if she performs them differently or not THE MESSAGE is what spoke to a lot of the fans and to hear her spit that message again is more than we hoped for originally!!!!

I wonder what's next for L boogie. I hope she cancels South America, stay home and rest. Stay out of the public eye and work on the album. Honestly these long tour schedules and all-night rehearsals are just too much- she really doesn't have to work this hard. Her public image goes to the dogs each time she puts on a bad show - still remember Chris Rock and Mary J's faces when Lauryn was performing - it was awkward for them and the fans. Her focus should be the album and finding a good production team like she did for Miseducation. Part of the reason there hasn't been an album is that she insists on doing things on her own and she loses interest quite quickly. She needs some good people around her and not a bunch of yes men The US public is once again dissing Lauryn calling her all sorts of names but I'm telling you as soon as she starts leaking good music (as with Repercussions) it will all be forgotten. She also needs a stylist..pronto! lol!! We're not dissing her! I'm hearing a LOT of great feedback!

@flavin Here you go:
Nas talks about makin Distant Relatives part II (Drops in November-December) UPDATE: Nas told last night at his concert that he was dropping part II to Distant Relatives now see what's included, such as with features from Lauryn Hill, Mary J Blige
Speaking to HipHopDX last night Nas revealed that in november-december he'll be releasing a "Distant Relatives II" of that album's 2010 sequel, Only Distant Relatives. Pt II with new bonus materials. "I'm really excited about that," said Nas. "There's gonna be some new material and stuff that y'all never heard before. I'm just tryin' to just secure my fan-base. I'm lettin' 'em know that Nas is here. I'm not tryin' to do no 2 years hiatus no more. I'm tryin' to be as relevant as I can right now."
"I'm workin' hard and I'm losin' a lot of rest to stand the test of time, and let everybody know that I'm still here."
