Now I'm sure you guys have all heard of Estelle. Since 'American boy' blew up she's been getting a lot of promotion with some comparing her to Ms. Hill. Her latest single See's her teaming up with Wyclef on a song which has Lauryn written all over it, in fact some people are calling it a 'Doo Woop, pt2', because of the lyrical content. But what do you guys think, and I wonder what Lauryn thinks of all these new artists biting on her stlye? www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2iSIdiEGNE

I'm sorry but I've always felt that no one can ever compare to the one and only Lauryn Hill. Estelle is good but not great.

Of course she hasn't got nothing on Lauryn. I just think its funny how Wycelf is the producer behind this song, he even said on this radio show recently that he thinks she's the new Lauryn Hill
But I think Ms Hill is fully aware of whats going on, she spoke of her clones in the Essence article back in 2006
''I’ve seen my style, my look, everywhere. I wasn’t really trying to share my style, I was just trying to be me and exist. Instead I’ve seen my concepts, my ideas, my creative birthright be exploited, appropriated, copied and reproduced. And that was painful. "

She isn't THAT bad. I love most of her album and I think with some work, she can be an influence on people like Lauryn. Most of her songs now don't deal with tough issues, just love in general. I love Lauryn more, though, but Estelle is good too.

I don't hate on anyone who tries to imitate Lauryn, because legends are always idolised and imitated. There will never be another Lauryn, but many will imitate. What's so amazing about Lauryn is that, she always was herself even though she idolised many artists like Nina Simone, Aretha and many more. Nowadays artists want to cash in past successful styles. This stuff just makes me happy, because i know that after all these years, Lauryn's influence is still around. I feel it will be for another 50 years.

word aloo...
btw, i just came across some informations on wiki, it would be great if only they would be true...
Lauryn is working hard on her second album and hopes to release in August 2008 in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of The Miseducation. She is also planning on working with Kanye West,John Legend,Common,Erykah Badu,Andre 3000,Talib Kweli and Mos Def. She is also playing Rita Marley in the upcoming BobMarley biopic.

It's hard to be believe whatever is written on a user-generated site. I hope some of it's true, like her working with Erykah Badu and starring as Rita Marley - it would be brilliant to see her acting again. I do very much doubt she would ever work with Kanye West

I do very much doubt she would ever work with Kanye West Erm, I wouldn't be so sure. There were some stories circulating around the press that she worked with Kanye on a couple of songs back in 2005. I think she's definitely worked with John Legend on some songs which is how the so high remix came about. The Erykah collabo is bullshit though, she hasnt seen her for years. Her playing Rita would be Big, but nothings been confirmed yet, guess we can only speculate...

Lauryn's future is bright when it comes to music. She just needs a purpose and the right time to express all of her creations, because i know she has been recording and is in the studio right now. I mean, music is what she loves.
