I haven't commented in a very long time. I really try not to come to this site anymore because I had so much hope for the Fugees reunion and it's no one's fault. I'd like to say that when I first seen Sister Act 2, I feel in love with "Rita's voice, and her attitude). I didn't know it was Lauryn Hill as we know her today. Shortly after that, I heard songs like Killing Me Softly, Ready or Not and If I rule the World on the radio. I was a little naive , 11 at the time and had no idea that this same girl was on Sister Act 2. I loved her voice. When I was able to listen to music freely because my parents didn't let me listen to it before, she is who I heard. She was the epitome of music for me. I considered her the greatest singer (vocally) of my time. (born in 83). As I gotten older (24 now) I wish I had seen her in concert. She just looks so "happy" before her unplugged album. I know looks can be decieiving though. All this to say, I am all for the unplugged album and whatever style she chooses to do- that's her freedom. I just wish that she didn't have to strain her voice so much because her voice can be impeccable. I know her voice is not the only thing to her music, but as a fan and a human being that's what I hear first. It's nothing wrong with that because that's me, and that's my freedom. Unplugged, her voice was strained, then after that in Chicago, her voice was remarkably clear, and Dave Chappelle's Block Party it was clear again!!!! But on the 2005 Bet Awards it was strained. I know she has nothing to prove to anyone, but I wish that all these people who continue to bash her would just hear her at one time, and shut thier mouths and saw wow-she not only still has it, but it even better!!!! Please Lauryn bring back the vocal quality that was once and still is there....
From a respectful fan.
