Ive always been a fan of not just the music, the clothes and style of Ms Hill, all of which obviously has evolved with her own evolution over the years, but the way she moves in her shows is killer. I know a lot of people have already discussed her look now as opposed to the Fugees era and even the Mised era, but physically the way she performs now is soooo different aswell. And Im sure the fans would have noticed the changes.
I wonder if its a conscious decision she makes, about the way she moves and physically expresses herself or if its just a natural discovery and a flow she feels. I wonder if she takes from other performers and tries to make a move her own. Maybe the groove and the feel of the music from the shows kinda dictates it ( as opposed to the sound she used in the mis-ed days )
She always was unique in that. I remember watching the Fugees and loved the way she would hold the mic with her 2 fingers over the top of it and 2 fingers underneath. How she would sort of do this swagger to the beat walking sideways and point to the crowd. There really was no other female performer I can think of, who moved like that.
I was just watching one of the live peformances, the new ones, I think it was in Belgium and she was doing the lost ones/naughty dread combo. I know this might sound odd but it kind of reminded of like Shirley Bassey or Judy Garland. How those performers as they got a bit older how they voices get deeper and more heavy in a way. But also the way the movements get really theatrical and exaggerated, like somehow they are feeling it deeper than before. And how she wants to yell it out more. How she now throws her hands around and tips her head really quickly, almost shamanically. Im also seeing a heavy Bob Marley influence, obviously cause she singing it a lot, but the way she kinda jumps and drops down and shakes the way Marley did, especially when she does Zimbabwe.
What y'all thoughts people?
