Lets say, Columbia announces that tomorrow they are putting up for auction 10 limited addition CD's of Lauryn's yet to be released long awaited second album. How much would you pay to be one of the first to hear the new sound?

Honestly, if it were to be released on a definitive date, I'd wait and just continue enjoying the music she has already provided us with for our listening and engagement experience. I'm not really in a rush, and if it were a "new sound," I'd imagine we've already heard it via her recent "experimental" performances. If not, I mean, okay. There's a reason why you (probably) love Lauryn, so just draw nourishment from what she's already released that's made you a fan to begin with.
In the spirit of your question, I don't know how much I'd pay. How much would you?

I would maybe go upto $100. I look at it like a concert ticket. On the otherhand, all we need is one copy, because you know someone would download it.
I am getting a little desperate I guess.

100? Forreal? But yeah that's what I'm sayin, too, you know it would get (a) leaked (b) mass produced as bootleg.
lol @ getting desperate.
A lot of people are. Lauryn's playin with y'all anyway.

Yes, seriously I would, but only for her. If you knew how anti-celebrity I was you would laugh. I don't know, after listening and seeing the unplugged performance, nobody has measured up since. I try to give other artist a chance, but they don't compare.

Here is an interesting point, if I were to see her in say the airport I would not say anything to her or want her autograph. I only want the music. I am not interested in her beyond that.

Certainly, her Unplugged album, to me, is not only a landmark achievement in elemental and fundamental musical expression, but also one of the most definitive and signficant works any artist has put out in relationship to the lineage of his/her own career. I agree with you, too, in that Lauryn really has an autonomous greatness, and that, even in consideration of the similarities that can be drawn between her artistry and that of others, she shines alone.
lol, No I believe that you don't care about her celebrity. That's interesting, and I think that's a healthy fanship to have of her. I can tell you that I am drawn to Lauryn Hill as the musician, lyricist and poet that she is, and that no one's work has compelled me more save a few historic poets, composers, and others. It's refreshing to see people who are only concerned with her musical pursuits.
I will say, though, that if an opportunity did present itself in which it wouldn't be out of place to speak to her, I would, from one artist to another. It would be for purposes of enriching my own vision and aesthetic as a poet.

I don't think I would speak to her if I met her. What for ? She probably gets tons of "I love your music sooo much !" everyday. LOL. I would just another fan ! As for your question ? I'd pay, whatever money I had. (as long as it doesn't leave me broke).

How you not gonna talk to her if you met her? I think "meeting" would imply a verbal exchange, not mute eye contact, lol.
And whatchumean "what for?" Why not? Like I said, I would talk to her as one poet/artist to another, not necessarily as a fan to a star. I am a big admirer of her work and, at some point (given the length of our conversation), I think my sentiments would come across regarding that.
Quit actin like this woman's the Sphinx, lol.

I would talk to her person to person if we were to casually meet. I would never approach her as a fan. I don't believe in giving anyone that kind of status and power. If for example I had to stand in line at say a meet and greet to buy a copy of her album I would decline. All I want is a fair exchange, I pay my money and get blessed with her gifts. I refuse to even stand in line at clubs and things to get in. You either take my money or forget it.

If i had a chance to talk to her, i'll tell her something different not just the 'i love your music' usual or 'your my idol'.

I would wait until the album is available in stores because I believe in that 'fair exchange' thing. The example she gave of the Neptunes in Trace Magazine was a good one and that's what I'm about. I would hate to be a nuisance to my favorite artist so I wouldn't approach her if I saw her. Besides, she doesn't like that whole celebrity thing and I respect that as a normal fan.
