Towards the left of the stage...in front of the DJ. "Lauryn's side" when they did the cheering contest!

I was stayin at the Radisson over the road (so were the band, I met Beast in the corridor earlier on & saw the guitarist in the lobby after the show) and walked over to the entrance (inngang 10) at about 6. There were 4 people there already & we stood about in the doorway and good hear the support act soundchecking.
Then we could hear the Fugee's band rehearsing, there was no singing/rapping but we could make out the music really clearly. They practiced Killin Me Softly & a couple of reggae jams while we were there. Everyone had to move into a queue, then the snow started and then they let us in at about 7.30.
The support act was a bit crazy and she really threw herself into the crowd at the end of her set - not a bad dancer tho!
So anyway.... DJ Leon played a quick run through of hip-hop (jay-Z, Memphis Bleek, Pete Rock & CL Smooth) and then did his mixin trick. He scratched the records behind his back, with his teeth and with his t-shirt over his head. It worked really well and got the crowd excited, then the band jammed a reggae instrumental & a voice off stage (Wyclef) sung that he "woke up this morning in Norwaaaaaay").
He comes out and stands at the edge of the stage and does an acapella verse that he stops half way through, tells us to "listen" and repeats. All I can remember properly is that he said "theres less schools, more prisons" and mentioned "Jay-z, T.I, B.I.G". I do remember being very impressed with the verse tho and can definitely imagine it being used on a track.
Then he joked about the support act hurtin herself, sayin that we "shouldnt have played her like that" (lettin her fall) but that if you want to stagedive you have to have the right record. Leon played "Jump Around" and everyone started gettin louder. He then did his French/Spanish/fast "freestyle" which he's always done ("Mira amiga, buenos dias senortia, como esta usted y su familia...." / "eat banana, eat mango, elvis presley roc n roll / me, a perfect cameo / run me at me, at me run / see dracula pon television....") but the crowd loved it.
He tried to get the crowd going again with Guantanamera (he called it a "party rocker") but they werent really feelin it & didnt actually seem to know it. Nobody sung along to the "Spanish Harlem.....Boogie Down Bronx...." bit so he cut that.
Then he poured a bottle of water over his head as he took his jacket off and Nappy Heads came on. Lauryn came from behind the DJ side and Pras from behind the keyboards. She was smilin and dancin and really got into her verse, even tho she changed her flow to her new style (Take It Easy / So High with the very deliberate stops and starts after each bar). It sounded great but the levels were a little bit off and the music was slightly loud over their vocals.
I know Ive started off in lots of detail but from now on im gonna have to just tell you the bits I remember even tho theyre not gonna be in the correct order....it was too excitin to take everythin in & even tho I pretty much know WHICH songs they did, i cant remember the order!
One thing I was surprised at tho was at how comfortable Lauryn seemed to be and how much fun she was havin. She danced throughout the whole thing and really got into it. At one point Clef was stood at the edge of the stage and she pretended to push him off and when Pras was takin a breather at the back of the stage (more on this later) she went over to him and put her hand on his shoulder, kinda like to say "You ok?"
Id also forgot how sexy she was and she didnt seem to be this super-serious character that everyone paints her out to be. Another thing I noticed about her is that she really does stare at the crowd when she raps, and when she smiles. Its kinda unnerving cos we were stood on the side that she stayed on mostly and you really do feel sometimes that shes lookin / smilin at you!!
Durin Ready Or Not, during her solo ("you cant run away....") Clef did his usual trick & climbed on a speaker (pretty much look-at-me!!) & this is somethin that always happened but it was so strange seein it that close up cos you really dont know who to watch. This happened thru the gig (not as Clef stealin the limelight but as me being stuck as who to look at or whether to take another photo or put my hands up!)
When they did The Beast, Pras pretty much forgot his verse completely. He's always stayed at the back in concerts but during this song he seemed a little out of it. Clef & lauryn rapped his verse for him and it wasnt until the last 2/3 bars that he caught up. It was a bit sad to see that, and clef looked a little annoyed but later on in the show they were teasin each other and both laughin ("Pras, I dont wanna hear about your Blackberry man").
They did all seem to get on really well and it was sweet when Lauryn started Killin Me Softly and had to wait cos she seemed a little emotional as she told us "its been so long since we've been on stage together". Also when Clef said he wanted "Ms Hill" to do ex-factor he asked the crowd to make some noise. They werent really loud enough and he made a face like "she wont come out till you're louder". He also said that the show was thank you to the fans who have stuck by the Fugees-that was cool.
Lost Ones was crazy, Clef said he might have to leave "cos its about to get sticky" but Pras & Jerry, who was holdin L's mike at the time, said he'd have to stay. Then she rapped the first line in his face and playfully pushed his head away as the drums started, for a split second he stands there pretendin to be mad, and then starts dancin round the stage, singin along to the whole song!! That was very cool of them to turn something that everyone over-analysed and made serious into a bit of fun.
He got his own back tho, and "answered" with 911 tho Lauryn didnt stay on stage for that. Makes sense really tho cos if she had of been there he wouldve had to serenade her i guess & thats not gonna help is it??
After Ghetto Supastar, Pras said they werent goin back on till he found his phone and he was serious. So Clef took over and 'looked' for it in the crowd. He ran thru the standin section and climed into the balcony to Perfect Gentleman. Then when he got back Lauryn did Killin Me Softly while Pras stayed at the side of the stage.
I met Pras later on outside the hotel with Beast and got my photo took with him, he was exactly how youd expect- very quiet, polite and "chilled". He's cool. He still has the bandage in his right hand tho (from BET Awards) so i dont know what happened there.
At first during the show I thought the whole Blackberry thing mightve been a gimmick but when i asked him later he said that he hadn t had it back and that his life was in that phone!
I'll post anymore that I remember later on but it was easily the best weekend of my life (Oslo is a great place) and im countin down now to the Manchester show!
Stay tuned........ j
