I went on myspace recently and looked at Lauryn's website. It said that her record label was 'Major'. She hasn't been on my space since 20/04/2006, so i'm not sure how reliable it is. www.myspace.com/laurynhillTHAT mySpace site is FAKE! I think the problem is not to find antoher record company... there are plenty whod sign her I think... but she is TIED to columbia... I believe the contract she has with Columbia is for 4 or 5 solo records! (thats what I heard back in the day) - so, if unplugged counts as two (double disc) - there are still at least 2 left. And it costs a shit load of money to buy yourself out of a contract like that... look at mariah carey... I think her recent record company payed over 20 million to buy her out of her old contract.

You have right idea fugees. However, I think she owes more than that; and I believe the double cd counts as 1. It's one album release. Like I've said before, Lauryn needs to suck it up and play nice. All of this late business and misbehaving is not helping her cause. Her reputation has been hurt tremendously. She is solely responsible for her own actions. Lauryn needs to come CLEAN and everything else good will follow. She has already begun working on another cd. Who knows if this too will be rejected by Columbia. If they do, this will be their 3rd reject of her finished project. That is DEVASTATING for ANY artist. That in itself is ENOUGH to cause ANYONE to go on drugs! LOL (Sorry ya'll!)

I think its a disgrace that record companies such as Columbia dont allow creative geniuses like Hill to express herself the way she wants to. If she was allowed to do as she pleased, im sure her reputation would be alot cleaner than it has been, and even though her sales might be down, Columbia should realise that they have a musical genius in Hill, and her talent, combined with their marketing drive they would put on a new Hill album would ensure its success. I think Hill said it best when singing 'you can get the money, you can get the power, but keep your eyes on the final hour,' all Columbia is interested in is the cash, but Lauryn will get the last laugh...

I agree. But I don't think the sales would be down. Everyone is fed up with that crappy music that's out nowadays. People are buying it because there's no other option. Think of people like John Mayer, Maroon5 or norah Jones. They don't do commercial music, but they still managed to sell, and win grammies etc... I don't know wtf is up with Columbia, but you know, they did the same thing with Miseducation. but still managed to release it.

Yeah, in some aspects I agree with you sybile, because that's why Ne-Yo is so big, because he's being looked as an artist with something to say, which is unconventional for hip hop today. But in reality, he's not that profound, you know. But, we honestly don't know what is going on behind the scenes. What we're debating is just a rumor, meaning it can be completely false. Like I have been saying, Lauryn is a sane woman, she has reasons for her actions, I'm sure there is a logical explanation for everything, and if it meant to be, then Lauryn will release a new album, sooner or later.

I don't know if u guys used to visit the old Lauryn sony forum, but there was a guy who used to post there all the time. He was some sort of industry insider. He was the first person to tell us that Lauryn had agreed to do an interview with Trace Magazine, and then months later, we got that Trace magazine article. So I believe that he's an accurate source. Anyway, last year ( around august, sept), he said that Columbia had a meeting with Lauryn, and they listened to the album, and they liked it, and thought it was 10 times better than miseducation. So, who's right and who's wrong ? I just want the album.

Any studio music Ms Hill puts out -- the people will get it. her last album was an UNPLUGGED album! Imagine it as a studio joint with beats--- FIRE. Columbia should know that!

There was a studio album to the "Unplugged" It was denied by Columbia. After Lauryn did the "Unplugged" MTV2 version, they then released THAT version, NOT the studio.

The Lauryn Hill petition is still online... you can sign it if you support the release of a new album: www.ipetitions.com/petition/laurynhill/so far, around 750 people have signed. should we not print it out soon and send it to COLUMBIA as soon as it has reached 1000 signatures??! peace.

I would tend to agree with all this too. I think it might have been the essence magazine interview she did (might be wrong) but she said the record company forced her to include her cover of 'Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You' on the Miseducation album and she was upset about that.
