I was lucky to attend the last Lauryn Hill concert in Europe. I spend a great week in Prag and went to the concert at the end of it. I was mentally prepared for delay, attitude and raspy voice, especially after hearing the norway rumours and the fact, that Prague was the fith day in a row she performed.
The location was great. I was in the fith row or something and only like ten meters away from Ms Hill. It was in a park and the crowd was really great. Even when the delay began, people stayed patient and dealt with it well. After 45 Minutes the annoucement about her voice was made. Then the band enterd. The looked great and were dressed in a 20s Harlem Jazz Style. They played for about 10 Minutes until Lauryn Hill enterd the stage and sang the Heathen. I think this was the tracklist
The Heathen Lost Ones/Nappy Dreads When it hurts so bad Final Hour Ex-Factor To Zion Iron Lion Zion Trenchtown Zimbabwe The first time ever I saw your face How many mics Fugela Zealots Ready or not Encore: Killing me softly
And besides that two or three new songs which were hardly unterstandable. I only picked things up lie "Thats what happened to me", "I didn't know", "I couldn't take the hatred" and so on. Lose Myself wasn't performed. She sayed at the beginning, that she would do some old, some new and some bob marley. And the lyrics didn't sound like bob, they sounded like Lauryn, so I think she did one or two new songs which were nice.
The most beautiful part of the show was when she performed The first time ever I saw your face. Someone from the crowed handed a bunch of flowers to the stage. The staff was already about to push the person away, but then Lauryn saw it and held the staff guy back, went to the front of the stage, picked up the bunch of flowers and sang with it. At another point of the show someone threw one single flower on the stage but she didn't see it. After two minutes she picked it up really fast from the ground and danced around with it a bit. She sang very good during the first time ever i saw your face. The rest was like usually, rather screaming and losing breath but still good anyway, especiallyn since it was the fith day in a row of performance. She really rocked the crowed when she did fugees stuff. Her dancing was awesome. She really made you laugh sometimes. At the end of one song she trew her towel up and catched it again. Since it was outside, she didn't use to towel alot At the end she came to the front of the stage and gave a few autographes. She was very nice, although she didn't talk alot. Anyway, great show. I was very happy to be there.

Whats goin on? Her Hair seem to get shorter throughout this tour. In Brasil she still had a afro-ponytail, now here hair are barely a fro at all. wow...the new look, the smile, the huge amount of coversongs. Lauryn Hill is definitly in some new phase. She seems nothing like Ms. Hill in Stuttgart or Chicago Has she ever played guitar during this tour?

This is strong. It has the same Intensity like "killing me softly" at the block party or "I gotta find peace of mind" from unplugged. She has tears in her eyes. This is touching me!
This would be nice as MP3!!!!

Nice Video. The show had a powerful energy but did she only play The Heathen, Lost Ones and Doo Whop?

I found this news, but don't know how relyable it is. It only says she is back in the studio and that she won't use post-unplugged music for the album. "Its been ten years since Lauryn Hill had new music. Everyone has all but given up on hearing new Fugees material and earlier this year Lauryn turned down the Fugees album herself. Everyone thought that was the nail in the coffin for any new material from anybody but Wyclef (who wants to hear a new Wyclef though). Well, Representatives from Lauryn’s team just told MTV News that she is back in the studio! the details are hairy right now, but we know she isn’t using unreleased material for the album. She prefers going in the studio an knocking out fresh material. Unfortunately there isn’t a release date or title at this time. This is still great news though!" Is not a big suprise, though. I couldn't imagine Lauryn Hill releasing post-unplugged material unless she really wants it. Since her performance was spontanious, she surely didn't consider legal oder music-industry issues when she did it. To bad though, I really would have wanted to see those performances of "I had to walk" and "Chains".

This is most definetly from the fugees or MisEd Era. You cann tell by the way her voice sounds. I would say rather MisEd. She changed her style of singing alot after the first album. Plus she never really refered to herself as "L-Boggie" from Unplugged times till now.

the line "I'm the first lady there's no comparison" comes across a little dubious since she is taking the flow and like every second line or rhyme from Lauryn Hill's origional...interesting anyway, but not to impressing.

Yeah, but I don't really think Lauryn Hill will reply to this. It's even more frustrating for Wylcef and Pras that Ms Hill doesn't say anything to this bashing, besides something like "I don't have the answer". When it comes to this bi-polar thing, I don't know if it is true, but this behaivor was reported by several people. Also people who are not necessarily bitter like Wylcef. There is no way all of them are making this up. Lauryn Hill has been called crazy alot through the years. Bi-polar is just another word. I doubt Lauryn will pay to much attention right now to this.

I don't know how much of this is true, but this is what I found on MTV Germany homepage Und nun sieht sogar ihr eigenes Label schwarz. The Translation is: Now even her own label seems to give up on her. Kyambo "Hip Hop" Joshua, Senior Manager of Columbia records says: "Her record deal is in danger. This contract was made for a superstar, but things have changed over the last years. Even if she would bring a great album, it surely wouldn't be as big as a fugees album. To be honest, I don't know when there will be a new Lauryn Hill Album"Here is the link www.mtv.de/news/news.php?id=26483

I totally feel what you say, aloo. I think a reason why I care for Lauryn Hill besides her music is that she is so diverse. I remember when I was in Prague they advertised her concert with video sequences from Unplugged but we wittnessed a totally different Lauryn that night. That she is able to do so many different things and isn't caught up in one certain style. In the end it's always Lauryn. When she talked in Unpluged and talked now in Belgium, it's she same person. But she is able to find so many different expression. Also musically. Just through Lost Ones, Mr Intentional, The Passion and Lose Myslef outthere. Brilliant works that are so different because they are from different times. By the way I really like the trenchcoat to come back to the fashion topic and also the rusty red hair. I think she has that since late 2006, when she performed with that long black outfit.

Lauryn also mentioned Britney in the BBC Interview 2005. Still I wouldn't enjoy them working together. Britney became simply realityshow-white trash that can't be taken seriously. Musically and vocalwise she is far behind Lauryn Hill.

I think that rumour was created by the statement during the Block Party about Columbia Records not clearing Lauryn Hills songs. Maybe Columbia put preasurre on her at that time to push her into a fugees reunion. But Lauryn said now, that "to expirience the high" her music needs alot of love and a purpose. I think she expirienced that with the soundtrack songs she did (Selah, The Passion and Lose Myself) and Columbia released those songs dispite their enourmous difference in style. On the other hand I guess the song we usually refer too as "Post-Unplugged" were too transitional and was something "she couldn't sit on", which could be the reason she stopped performing this music. That is why I also don't think any of these songs will be on her next album.
