I don't think lauryn would say something like that. Lauryn Hill is pro black but that doesn't mean she is anti white. There are so many rumors flying around about her. They say that she's out of her mind, that she's a lesbian, she's emotionally unstable. These rumors are all stupid.

I PERSONALLY LOVE HER, I DO, BUT SOMETHING IS GOING ON WITH HER, SHE PERFROMED TERRIBLY IN THE BET AWARDS, FOR SOMEONE WHO STANDS FOPRAFRICAN AMERICANS AND THE WHOLE REFUGEE THING, SHE LOOKED MORE LIKE SHE CAME FROM JAPAN WITH A LITTLE MIXTURE OF THE 70'S STYLE IN HER, HER VOICE CRACKED REPEATLY, SHE WAS SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT TO WATCH AS THE OTHER OF MEMBERS OF THE FUGUEES DIDI THEIR THING, I BELIEVE THAT ZIGG MARLEY REALLY MESSED UP BAD IN THE HEAD AND HTHE FACT THAT SHE LET A MAN BRING HER DOWN AND ALLOWED HIM TO TAKE AWAY WHO SHE WAS, WHAT SHE STAND FOR, AND THAT WAS A GREAT AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN, WHO GAVE ME SHIVERS EVERY SINGLE TIME I HEARD HER SING. TILL THIS DAY I COULD BE WATCHING SISTER ACT 2 AND THE FACT THAT LAURYN IS IN IT MAKE ME SMILE AND REWIND HER PART OVER AND OVER AGAIN, BUT I SAY AGAIN WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR GIRL PEOPLE, I WISH AND I MEAN REALLY WISH THAT WE HAD THE OLD LAURYN BACK.......

Lauryn is spiritual unlike the most of celebrities,...-that is very important in our everyday life where lots of people go crazy because they can't find their place, many people suffer losses .../ I think Lauryn overgrew Wyclef, Rohan and many other people and that's the main reason why she feels unhappy - because she can't find anybody who wolud be really close to her in all senses/ It isn't only her problem! It is a problem of almost everybody/(but not everybody realize that) Unfortunately, loneliness affects lots of people and it is very difficult to stay independent and keep the SOUL. People need moral support and if they don't get it for a long time they can change... So everybody, be yourselves and help people who are close to you and who need your support/ And 1 more thing I would like to say: fans of people like lauryn are happy people--even if you can't find anything kind, spiritual in our everyday life-nevertheless you are trying to find it in your surroundings/ And it's good that still there are people like lauryn... Peace

I always used to be a big fan of Lauryn and I still respect her music and style. I never heard about the rumors that she's racist, but what I experienced at her performance at the Nuke festival was depressing for me as a fan. She somehow showed disrespect for her austrian audience while 'performing'. With her poor performance she almost chased people away! However, still love her but feel very sad about this incidence and would like to know the reason for it!
Would be glad if sbd. has an explanation for me. Thanks

you are entitled to BELIVE what you want, but these are the FACTS
Lauryn Hill Responds to Racism Rumor (excerpt from 'Teen People' story, 4/99)
In 1993, when Lauryn was just 18, the Fugees signed with Ruffhouse/Columbia Records, and a year later, they released their first album, Blunted on Reality. Unfortunately, the debut didn't capture the band's energy, and the record failed to make a dent commercially. Faced with failure, the threesome regrouped and produced much of their next album, The Score, themselves. With its perfectly fused hip-hop and R&B anthems, "Killing Me Softly" and "Ready or Not," The Score went on to sell more than 17 million copies worldwide.
However, as "Killing Me Softly" climbed the charts, a potentially career-ending rumor arose that threatened to send Lauryn into a downward spiral. During the summer of 1996, a caller to shock jock Howard Stern's radio show said on the air that he'd heard Lauryn tell MTV that she'd rather see her child starve than have a white kid buy her album. MTV would announce later that the allegation wasn't true, but by that time it was too late. The ugly, false rumor had already been set in motion.
"From this one broadcast, all of a sudden people who appreciated my music thought that there was something wrong with who I was and what I represented," says Lauryn. Instead of letting a publicist act on her behalf, Lauryn, furious and very hurt, called a radio station herself to deny the charge. "I said, 'How can I possibly be a racist? My music is universal music. And I believe in God. If I believe in God, then I have to love all of God's creations. There can be no segregation.'"
That was more than two years ago, and the media have all but forgotten the false story. However, teens are still hearing (and repeating) it in cyberspace. "My sister told me something that got me really mad yesterday," reads a January 9, 1999, post on America Online's "Teens" Board. "She said she heard on MTV that Lauryn would rather kill her baby than sell her record to a white person....I think they should lock her up just for saying that."
"Let me clarify this right now," Lauryn responds forcefully. "I am not a racist. I love people who love God. I love good people. If you're a good person with a good heart, you're cool with me. And I hope I'm cool with you. There's nothing racist about anything in my heart." .
Lauryn insists she wants people to understand that her goal to improve the self-love of young African-American women should never be confused with advocating racial supremacy. "There are a lot of young black girls who I meet in my travels who don't have a lot of self-esteem," she explains. "So if I communicate to them that they're beautiful, no white person should find fault in that. It doesn't mean that young white girls aren't beautiful, because they are just as beautiful."

I don't think that Lauryn said those exact words, but that is what she meant. "if anyone would say that it would be wyclef" i mean the man said it about himself. Birds of a feather flock together... you ever heard that saying. Lauryn Hill is a racist, if possible she would have marketed only to blacks if she could have made out as well. Too bad for her the main people buying the album are WHITE. She says she talks to young african americans cause thats what she is. So shes putting a social divider right there. what is the difference between the races? we all have struggles, and we should struggle together not in racially segregated groups. Sorry that some black people can't get over what happened 200 years ago when their tribe leaders sold their ancestors to some rich brits. I mean be thankful look what you have now because of that, you are here in america making a shit ton of money... if not for that you would prolly be in some piss poor village eating monkey shit while getting fucked by your dad uncle brother mother and everyother tribal lowlife.

There is nothing in her song that says that she's addressing only to Black people. And that's what matters for me.

Lauryn Hill is not a racist and if she was who asked you to buy her music anyway? You have no proof she said this you're only going by what you heard "them say". Whoever that is, just because wyclef would say something like that doesn't mean Lauryn would. And hater of racists I'm sorry that you can't understand why some black people are still mad about what happened two hundred years ago; this was when the black people were "freed" not how long they've been treated fairly. Black people were still struggling in the 60s for the right to vote you idiot! I experience racism a good bit, thank you and I don't appreciate you trying to make light of it. You seem to me that you are the racist! And hwo do you figure that we would be "eating monkey shit in some piss poor village"? Some of the greatest creations came from BLACK PEOPLE. Ignorant people try to brush things under the rug and pretend like they never happened, thats you. I'm sure you were seething when President Obama took the oath. If you don't like Lauryn or black people for that matter STAY OFF THE SITE; I'M SURE LAURYN WILL NOT MISS YOU!!!!! AND TO ALL YOU NEGATIVE PEOPLE ON THE SITE GIVE IT A REST! I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SITE THAT LIFTED LAURYN HILL UP AS AN ARTIST?!?

i can't believe this rumour is still floating around. Lauryn Hill is not a racist. She sings about life, social injustices, god and christianity, love and so much more. She is extremely intelligent and isn't capable of making a silly statement like that. Who ever believes the rumours is even more silly.
