Former Fugees leader Wyclef Jean is convinced he's about to release the album of his career. The album, which will be his fifth, is a hip-hop themed world album.
This may sound like the unlikeliest of things but Jean claimed he has never been one to keep up with pop trends. "We went the whole mile with this one," said the Haiti-born rapper, singer and producer at the Sheraton Beach Resort in Langkawi last week. He was there to meet with his Asian record label executives and to showcase tracks from the album Carnival II: Memoirs of An Immigrant, which will be released in October.
It is a sequel to his 1997 solo debut The Carnival, an effort that music website All Music Guide hailed as "one of those rare hip-hop moments that came out of nowhere and rewrote the rules".

The album is damn hot, but Preacher's Son is more like the Carnival than this is. Two reasons: not enough hip-hop, and too much acoustic. I'm fine with Wyclef singing but gimme more than 2 songs with rapping on it y'know? The collabs are wicked they came out really good, especially Slow Down and Any Other Day.
The coolest thing about the album is the medley of songs at the end of it, it's really three songs on one track. To me the highlights are right there; 'Touch Your Button' definetely has that Carnival feel from the first album, I think that might be Will.I.Am produced, it almost has a 'Anything Can Happen' type sound so I can really say that the closest it gets to the OG Carnival.
Wyclef was gonna release the TI track 'Slow Down' as the next single, top 3 track on the album for sure. But TI is screwed right now so I really think he should go with 'Touch Your Button' cause that's vintage Carnival sound, a classic in its own.
I'm giving it an 8/10, stick it in between Carnival and Preachers Son. But I will say that Preachers Son is more like a sequel to the Carnival than this is.

I think he only threw on the "Carnival" name to get a buzz and some sales. I haven't heard the album but if this really was Carnival II there would be a lot more rapping...
One more week!
