"Heard the Fugees was tryin to do me - look bit*h! I cut yo' face, this ain't no motherf**kin movie THEN! We watch the other two die slow" -Pac "When We Ride on our Enemies"
"I don't wear Jheri curls cause I'm nah from the West No disrespect to the West, true indeed I rock it to the East, the East is the seed" -Lauryn Hill "Nappy Heads Remix" This was before the score and the beef so I don't know if this had anything to do with it, just saying.
I've never been able to find out what pissed Pac off. But Pac's diss was recorded during the Makaveli days and he was just pissed off at everyone from the east...Jay-Z, Nas, Mobb Deep, Biggie, Puffy...just mad at the whole east coast and the Fugees had just blown up outta the east. That's my guess but who knows for sure.

2Pac dissed them because of a series of interviews they were giving at the time, saying they weren't gangsta rappers, and that no one should place them in that category. Pac (and many others) took offense when all three of them came out giving similar interviews, showing that it was a deliberate power play, or move, on their part. A way for them to shit on the game, whilst being a key part of it's elevation (at the time). Pac was just one of the few that hit the lab pissed, and recorded the song "When We Ride On Our Enemies" where he also bodied Mob Sheep, and Da Lezo (Brat), along with the fugees.
"Heard the Fugees was trying to do me//Look biaaat**, I got your fate, this ain't no motherfucken movie//Then, we'll watch the other two DIE SLOW castrated//Entertainment at my motherfucken sideshow//" - Pac "When We Ride On Our Enemies".
I personally prefer the funkified OG version to the commercially released version found on the "Better Dayz" record. In fact, I prefer the OG versions of ALL the songs on that record.

That's my guess but who knows for sure. What does that have to do with Pac? Pac neither had a Jeri curl, nor was he even originally from the west coast. He had only started repping the west side when suge bailed him out of jail, so he felt like he had to show his gratitude. He was not mad at the whole east coast because he had plenty friends from the east coast (Treach from Naughty By Nature was one of his best friends). Plus he had beef with rappers from all over the country, including the west side (dr dre).

Who cares? All of it was just creating more division and at the end of the day countless lives have been lost. Whether east coast or west coast they didn't own anything; fronting for others they were just consumer. now when on of these rappers are allowed to go back and teach others how to think business wise and stop the divide and not diss others for a dollar sake then others quality of life will improve. Right now they (rappers) have contributed more to hate wars over territories that neither own and brought in others to fuel this hate. The undertakers and prisons have capitalized the most from this madness. Nothing has changed for the better. At the end of the day talk is "cheap."

Look up Haitian Jack's relation to both Wyclef and Tupac and you will have a better frame through which to view Tupac's relationship with the Fugees.
