Do you think MLH kids Selah and Zion can sing/rap?

Selah wants to be a singer and Zion wants to rap.  I don't think they're very good to be honest.  What do you guys think?

Imagery says more than the ? It seems that no Marley can do anything without first smoking dope. Zion is pictured here smoking dope before he can begin his performance.  Next, is a pic of Selassie followed by F@@k John 16. Followed by a pic of Bob Marley on the front of the t-shirt.  He has already been indoctrinated with these false gods and putting down the bible.  That why you can't be unequal yoke.  God warns they will have you serve their gods and you will turn away from the true and living God.

Selah is a little stage fright like her mother and trying to use someone else lyrics for self expression can stagnate her growth.  Write your own lyrics and let the heart flow.  Today singers are rare. Auto tune has taken over so if the lyrics are good she can be made to sound just fine.

I believe the children go to college or at least will be attending (however this is not a measuring stick for success). Why don't people stick to worrying about their own talent and leave these kids alone**. True2u, lol I mean what can I say, you are who you are.

I'm really curious as to the average age on this board now. I'm guessing most people here are in their 20s, that would explain some things on this board. I don't get that from true2u and one other person. I think a couple of people are well beyond 40 on this board (excluding me lol).

It's enough having the parental duality they do have, it's stressful and it can be harmful to have that kind of pressure placed on them by externalities. So, you know... just let them come into their own without people comparing them to their mother or grandfather or criticizing them about their abilities. They are still at an age where they are gathering who they are and that has an effect on their self-perception and self-esteem (much like for anyone else). They'll eventually determine what will work for them and what will not as they move forward with their lives. Whether they will completely move ahead with music (various aspects of it), don't know, but I think a couple of the other kids will probably be more involved with it as well (namely Joshua and Sarah from what I've seen). When I saw the video for Nigeria, I said, that little one, she gon' be all up in it lol.

Anyway, they are solid kids and I'm sure strong kids as well, want the best for the family.

Zion is out of school and Selah is graduating this year - they are legal adults now. Lauryn Hill's grown kids with Bob Marley's son are singing/rapping on the Internet and even at her shows, why in the world wouldn't we talk about it here? Don't you think Bob's fans talk about his sons music - whether they like it or not?

As for comparisons, every artist that comes out gets compared to another. Putting pressure on them would be expecting them to sell millions and win grammies, not stating an opinion that you don't think their singing/rapping is good. I really doubt they come to this board anyway and if they did, nobody is being nasty, just sharing opinions.

Let this board thrive and stop trying to shut every discussion down.

nah I don't (and no one is stopping you or anyone else from saying what you'd like, just be ready for what follows...or don't lol). I just think there are better ways to handle things. Like I said, if I am correct about the average age on this board, it explains a lot.

Bob's children are all grown lol; they are not developing buds like Zion and Selah. These kids are not *grown*. 18-20 is not grown (although I'm sure they'd like to think so lol), they are still developing who they are and what they'd like to do in life. 

I thought Jah's response was cool/fine. It was balanced, feel me? Here's my thing...I view criticism different from constructive critique. It's a balancing act, where you mold suggestions of improvement into areas that may lack it and promote areas of strength. Nothing wrong with this, but when you offer "they aren't very good" and "I'd rather not see..." that can be off putting and hurtful to people who are still trying to find their place, coupled with the comparisons to their family, that can be daunting.

We don't know what will become of their efforts, but we can always encourage improvement/growth and at some point, they'll figure things out for themselves and what works for them. Part of the growing process is messing around with stuff and getting your feet wet so to speak, another part of the growing process is well, encountering people who may not like your stuff, that's fine, but let them grow first lol

They should be able to have fun and continue to develop without extra scrutiny about their abilities and without comparisons to members of their family imo. Age related peer comparisons are different, that's a different pressure, one I'm sure they'd easily tackle lol. it's healthy competition (I prefer the collective orientation of healthy competition though, not individualism). 

While they have made the decision to put themselves out there... as adults, it's important to understand where they are in life. I'm cognizant that not everyone will have this same mindset, but at least on a board regarding Lauryn (and her family to an extent), a board she comes to sometimes, we (or at least myself) can extend a more elevated stance of awareness I think. jmo, do what you'd like.

I can tell they probably have thick skin (although I don't know.. facades are very common lol), but my preference is to offer anyone constructive critique and not simple negative criticism.

What would 20 years old have in common with Lauryn who is 41? This music was generated before they were born.

I've learned over the years that nothing happen by chance and especially in this industry. This industry has always exploited young unsuspecting minds. They did the same for Lauryn even when she was with the Fugees.

I look at the directing and how it is set to depict certain imagery.  Selassie, Zion should know that his grandfather realized at the end of his life that he needed a saviour and he confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. However, all his life he as been fed this lie about Selassie and Rasta and now his identity is in this deception.

I am not suggesting that we come to Jesus when we are on our death bed but when we can be of service to his kingdom and win souls by the life we live.  Most won't come because they want what the world has to offer and won't surrender.   Drugs aren't needed to paint any picture.  If you put down xanax and pic up ganja you are still deceived.  

Should we allow our kids to experiment with drugs knowing that they can be addicted and become a co dependency for life?


Finally, is it real that the music industry still control Lauryn's destiny and 5 albums still needed before she can be free?  Why would this be an options for her children at this point.  I am sure she can tell them some things that would make their hair stand on their head bout this industry and it expectations of those that sign the contract.

Most people who enter the military at their ages are not emotionally capable of handling the military (this is deflection). A legal status is not the same as emotional growth. I can tell you are young (hopefully lol).

Please don't put words into my mouth, I have never stated nor implied that "they are not very good" because that's not how I see it. I don't tap dance, but I don't simply offer negative criticism. With any craft, improvements need to be made, that doesn't suggest or indicate level of talent or artistry. It's called progression and there's levels to it. Being *real* doesn't mean being *mean.*

They are not MLH. They are their own people and will handle things differently. I'm sure Lauryn prepared them, but things still hurt...even for Lauryn I'm sure, so people need to be more aware of their words and especially towards children who are still developing their craft and figuring out what it is they want. Just because they have a famous mother and grandfather does not mean comparisons are warranted between them, that's unduly pressure. As they grow and mature in their confidence and craft(s) they'll be much more capable of handling things even better. I never stated that "there's no such thing as someone singing/rapping and nobody comparing it to anything." In fact, I specifically made mention of PEER comparisons. One thing that irks me to no end, is when peeps don't read.

You can call this an argument, but that's not how I view it. Perception is everything and based on your own personal experiences outside of this board, you will interpret things in a certain way and I am ok with that. I don't comment on every thread and threads where I have commented on don't always end in what you call *arguments* ( a couple have occurred though). I suppose you need to take your own advice and get thick skin when your viewpoints are challenged.

Errbody don't function the same way, so you balance positive criticism and negative criticism = constructive criticism. It's a balanced approach. Things don't have to be so oppositional.

One thing I like about you...you remain true, composed and steadfast in your convictions (even if many of us disagree or get tired of them lol). 

I'm telling you, the average age on this board from frequent users = 20s (early, mid or late or a mix of this). I can feel it and just the way people think. At certain stages in your life (for some, not all), your thinking is different.
There are a lot of people in their 20s that listen/relate to L-Boogie's material. Just like how I listen to someone like Sarah Vaughn or Stevie Wonder and their music was before my time.
