@oprah, she sounds the same to me. I'll have to look for 2003 clips and other year clips to see what you're talking about.

I'm feeling "Black Is The Color of My True Loves Hair." I like this much better than Feeling Good.
Oprah, I agree that the mix is off.
By the way, she was totally killing it during the Small Axe tour - I put some of those performances on my ipod. But "Black Is..." is a lot closer to those vocals than "Feeling Good." I can get into this one.

I really liked Feeling Good, but Black is stunning! The last 2.30min are just wow, so much sentiment in her voice! But as some of u said, the tracks are so so mixed.

The choice of instruments does not allow Lauryn to be herself. It sounds hollow no depth like sounding brass the essence of the soul is not capture; no riding of the notes just bland. She is stuck no fullness and the music is depressive. Lala should have done Feeling Good and Gifted and Black. This is rich riding her natural sound not distorted or to high pitch.

Slightly random observation, but I noticed when I pre ordered the Nina Revisited album from iTunes MLH's name was listed without the Ms. In front of it, and all of the songs she's released under the name Ms. Lauryn Hill have been moved to the Lauryn Hill section. Any thoughts, or am I just over analyzing? lol

Any thoughts, or am I just over analyzing? lol Most likely done so for "commercialization" purposes. Previously on iTunes when you searched "Lauryn Hill" all the music she released such as Miseducation, Unplugged ect pops up, but when you type in "Ms. Lauryn Hill," none of that music shows up, except like 5 songs including Neurotic Society, Consumerism, Repercussions (Music she released since 2010) ect. When the Nina Revisited songs were added to iTunes, they were not listed under the "Lauryn Hill" name, but the "Ms. Hill." Most people will always consider Lauryn... Lauryn Hill... instead of Ms. Lauryn Hill. Changing it allows the fans to find her / and her new music more easily. I do know that the Ms. Lauryn Hill name screwed up the organization of my Lauryn Hill music folder in iTunes lol

Big O must be anticipating an interview from Lauryn. You would think that she has hired an investigator to scope Ms. Hill. Maybe Ms. Hill was her assignment and she can't let her get away. She must be stalking she gets all the news about the awards, Nina's project and the upcoming album. Why is she so consumed. Lauryn didn't give her that interview before prison, maybe she is out done cause NO ONE turn down the Big O. lol HPO

I think In the past Lauryn tried to alter the quality of her voice on purpose sometimes. There was an obscure video of a portion of a recording session for the sweetest thing where she says something about getting her voice as dry as possible. I wonder where she is on the spectrum now Taking "care" of voice and have no life but totally vocal freedom with a single version of your voice vs embracing your voice as it comes, and matching material to condition and having a life I was hoping for a version of little girl blue. Nina's version of that song really did mix in a Christmas carol

The crazy thing is that this track would have gone over my head a few years ago, but WOW!!! The truth and urgency of these lyrics give me chills (and that RARELY happens). On a more sonic/aesthetic note she sounds incredible on this track. Her flow is on point and she is rapping with a swag that lets us know she can still slay with no problem at all. I can only imagine what else she's cooking up in the studio.
