From YOUTUBE:
"Published on 1 May 2015 In the 1970’s the legendary artist and civil rights activist, Nina Simone released a song entitled "BALTIMORE." It spoke to the challenges of urban living, particularly for people of color.
Earlier this year, a group of recording artists, including Nina’s daughter Lisa Simone, Mary J Blige, Common, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Gregory Porter, Alice Smith and Andra Day amongst others, gathered to pay homage to Nina by covering many of her songs for a Tribute album to accompany the first ever comprehensive documentary on the enigmatic singers life entitled “What Happened, Miss Simone”. Available on Netflix June 26.
Philadelphia native Jazmine Sullivan recorded a chilling rendition of “BALTIMORE".
No one could have predicted the current events leading up to the untimely death of Freddie Gray, an event that lead to civil unrest, riots, widespread protest and the city of Baltimore literally being brought to its knees.
2015 looks a lot like 1968. Another black man dead in police custody….Another family grieving…Another city in turmoil."
I wonder what song she will do. Nina SImone is my favorite artist..this will be amazing! Jazmine Sullivan covered "Baltimore" which is where I found this info.

I was initially going to say young, gifted, and black, but Donny Hathaway seal the deal. So I would say revolution or to love somebody.

Maybe "Ain't Got No - I Got Life" because she's been interpolating some lyrics in live performances of "Damnable Heresies" at the end. I would love "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free", "Why? (The King Of Love Is Dead)", "Just In Time", or "Who Knows Where Time Goes". But any song is cool! Adore both of em, can't wait for this CD and doco, that "Baltimore" song sounds amazing.

I hope all her cuts make it! I'll actually be seeing Ms. Hill, Jazmine Sullivan, and Mary J Blige all at Soulfest in October, would love to hear some Nina covers.

Sounds like she is rhyming on that "African Mailman". I never hears the original before hearing she covered it! I'm salty cuz I love so much of Simone's work! Anyway, the original is an instrumental where Nina Simone showed off a little of her brilliance on piano. The clips I've heard of Lauryn doing the song, I hear her rapping. I'm so excited!!!
