Mary J Blige will play Nina Simone on big screen

Mary J. Blige will portray Nina Simone as announced by her. I wonder if she can pull it off. I havn't seen Mary act but it will sure be tough. All that i can say, is that it would have been an excellent role for Ms. Hill. Lauryn reminds me of Nina Simone aswell and she is an excellent actress. It would have been great to see lauryn on the big screen again.

Nina Simone!!! honestly, i don't think Mary J. will be able to pull it off. No disrespect but I just can't see her singing Sinnerman. the movie still sounds good tho.

I am glad Lauryn is not portraying Ms. Simone. I was doing some research on Ms. Simone this past weeend. Lauryn did indeed have a relationship with Ms. Simone. She attended her concert in Paris during the MisED days and Talib said he watched her European Tour with Ms. Simone and Harry Belafonte during the Unplugged era. I also read an interview Lauryn gave that she said Nina had told her that she did not think she could have a music career and a family. But, the the reason I would not like to see her in the role is that I think people already try to associate Ms. Hill so closely with Ms. Simone and I think she would then carry all that baggage with her for the rest of her career. I think Ms Simone is an interesting character, but I also think Lauryns views on the world are much more thoughtout and rational than Ms. Simones. I would like Lauryn to build her own Legacy which I think she is well on her way to.

I agree 100%, i just can't get over Mary J. There is almost no resemblance, there style of singing is completely different, and i'm not sure if i have ever even seen her act. wouldn't she be toward the bottom of the list, at least for this part. It's Nina Simone. that is one huge role to play, but i guess like aloo said we'll just have to wait and see.

Lauryn Hill STILL should have played Nina Simone. Nina has been one of her idols for the longest. Its a slap in the face for her not to place this part. Its a message to her that she will not get what she wants, even though she may feel somewhat entitled. It's stragetic and deliberate. Columbia/Sony are rough! They play be very rough. And this is why I say, that Lauryn needs to suck it up and play nice. Do a great album, get her money and then try to bounce. Columbia/Sony is the most ruthless of all the record companies. They have the most power, the most connections and the most money. It 's a very sad place for LH to be.

Maby it's just me, but i can't see Lauryn playing as Nina Simone either. i can't really fined any similarities in there voices also. But, Lauryn isn't a bad actress, she sings, and does play the piano. Then again i do like what Guest21 said.

Yea, she plays very well , i just don't remember where i saw her play but im almost positive i saw her play.

She probably can play. Her mother is a piano player and her father is a singer. I am sure her mother taught her to play. I believe it stated this in the book by Toure. I think all of the members of her family played various instruments. I believe someone posted this article a few months ago.
