Last week, you said in the press that Lauryn needs to get help. She's often being referred to as crazy or strange, but nobody's really explained what makes her so complicated. Can you enlighten us? Wyclef: Well let me answer the first part of your question. Okay, well, why would all of these people want to work with me? Understand, after the Fugees, I went on to doing the first hit for Destiny's Child. I wrote Carlos Santana's ''Maria, Maria.'' I wrote Whitney Houston's ''My Love is Your Love.'' I have a track record of writing worldwide smashes as a producer, so everybody wants to be a world superstar; they're not trying to be a domestic star. So any smart artist is going to be like, ''Let me get a joint from Clef, because you never know, if that Clef joint work, you over the waters.'' Int: But you could be talented or brilliant and still be the a--hole. Wyclef: I think with me, the proof's in the pudding. Everybody who's met me, they'll tell you, I'm straight up, what you see is what you get. I'm a funny dude. I like to crack jokes. I don't take myself that serious. At the end of the day, we get together, we make some good music happen, and I think that's why the Fugees worked when it worked because we weren't taking ourselves so seriously. Int: But... Wyclef: I don't really want to dwell on a conversation [about] Lauryn Hill. I'm going to say the last thing I'm saying to you, but I will tell you something, the reason why I said that ... We got money at a young age. And I was smart when I was little. They called me the offshore man. But it messes you up. This watch in my hand is worth half a million dollars. But I've been wearing watches like this since I've been 20-years-old. Do you know what I'm saying? How that f---s you up and messes you up? All right. Lauryn was not more than 18, 19 years old. Homey! It's like, I don't care who it is, after a while if you don't have somebody talking to you, putting you on level ground, you going to get lost. I was telling you all [along] that shorty was wigging out. You all was like, ''Oh no, it's just Clef because Clef broke her heart. Boom, boom, boom, boom.'' I said, ''I'm telling ya'll, something's wrong with this girl. It's beyond that.'' Now, you all are like 10, 12 years [later], and like ''Yo, maybe Clef was kind of right.'' I think the problem is internal. And you see her, but who's around her? Who's telling her to do this stuff? It's the same with the MTV Awards [and] Britney Spears. Who's around Britney? It's not even about the person, but who's around the person and souping them up and giving them that advice. So I sent that message clear, that Lauryn Hill needs to see a psychiatrist. And I didn't say she's crazy. But what I'm saying is, kids see psychiatrists every day. You don't have to be crazy to see psychiatrist. Just get an evaluation, right? I've seen a psychiatrist before. If you're bi-polar, a psychiatrist will see that, you know, prescribe you medicine. But if you don't do that, you keep showing up to shows three hours late, people looking at you on the Internet, and they're like, ''Man, this is not the Lauryn Hill we used to know.''
Int: When you're that young, it's already so hard to figure out who you are at that age. And if you don't come from some kind of stability, coming into all of that money and fame, it's like Lindsay Lohan.
Wyclef: At a young age, trust me, people will say, ''Yo, that wouldn't happen to me.'' The reason they say that is because they not in that situation. What I'm telling you, ma, is when you in the situation where you can literally have like $500 grand a month just for yourself, just to be like ''What do I want this month?'' [Pretends to wrap his hands around a neck]. Somebody gotta be like, ''Hey, come to earth.''
Int: I wonder if coming under that stress makes people in the spotlight think that there's a conspiracy against them, because all of a sudden the media has descended on them.
Wyclef: They might think there's a conspiracy.
Int: Some of the things, for instance, that Lauryn has said are very anti-men. And I'm a feminist, but that's a different thing.
Wyclef: Yeah, I think hers is coming from a place of rage. But I've been with her in different situations. It just feels beyond that, you know. And unfortunately, in the next two or three years, it's going to manifest even more unless she gets help.
Int: I mean, Van Halen is getting back together after like 30 years, so maybe that means there's still hope for the Fugees.
Wyclef: Well, let me tell you something, man, I'm the oldest Fugee, and I look like the youngest Fugee. So tell the Fugees they have to hurry up because in another 10 years, my hair's going to start getting gray. |

That's a good interview actually. I still think Clef trying to tell his bandmate what to do is wrong. Lauryn has a family, husband (or used to) and kids. She knows what she is doing, and no one will understand her, unless they're on her same level. That's why clef and pras don't get her, and are saying she should see a doctor. I thought clef referring to lauryn as a child wasn't very big of him. She obviously isn't.

I'm starting to think it's true, you got two of her best friends's word against hers. Seriously... this Lauryn Hill is very different from the Lauryn Hill we knew in 98, the one we knew in 2001, and the one we knew in 2005. It's like a spiritual parasite (Bro. Anthony???) has been eating at her to the point of no possible return who she really was. Let's look at this in 360 degrees Lauryn fans, we have obviously been biased all this time in defending her waaaayy too much... she's gone, the girl we loved with the dreads and pretty smile is gone. Now, smite my karma if you want, but it's true.

I'll exalt your karma,coz u are right,but what I don't understand is why people can't accept that Lauryn is changed 1 kp for me too, cause you said it. But you know what...Lauryn had always been who she is now. Who she was in the fugees times and mised was a cover up of who she really is. That's the truth. The only thing i don't understand about Lauryn, is that she isn't confronting others and doing interviews to let her fans know what she is feeling, and where she is at. That's just the strangest thing. I will always support her, no matter what her closest friends say, but she always tells us not hide, but confront. I don't believe she is confronting. She is hiding, by not explaining to her fans what is really going on, cause we all want to know. P.S I still think she has the smile lol |

I think that there are certainly a lot of things about Lauryn that people don't understand as far as her behavior, especially people who used to know her like clef, Pras and other industry people. I can see why they might say things seem crazy like when Clef was like " how do you say, EVERYONE TURN AND FACE THE WALL MS HILL IS COMING SHE DOESN'T WANT YOU TO SEE HER FACE!lol, at first I didn't believe it cuz I heard them say that at vibefest in atlanta, then Im like wow.Because that behavior is extreme and is and exccentic. But I can see someone do that if they felt taken advantage of and if did not want to be apart of something anymore. I just have a hard time beliving Lauryn is crazy because those who love her and know her, like her mother, father, brother, Ro and friends wouldn't they have too spoken out. If she was really as bad as people say wouldn't they be obligated to do something.
maybe Lauryn just acts this way around people she doesn't trust.

When you see a problem with a friend you have to acknowledge it for what it is. If the issue is acknowledged then it can be worked on. If you make someone feel ok with whats wrong when it's not then you are keeping them stagnant and they cannot progress until they come to terms with the problem that is holding them back. Loyalty as good as it is, is not better then truth. It's only good to be Loyal to a good thing. After this post that I am quotiing from there is a post that asks the question about those close to Lauryn and the Obligation they have to address the problem if there is one. Well let me ask you this, if we who most of us have never met her in person, don't know whats her favorite Movie, color, food and have been touched( very greatly )only by her music and we have been Loyal and in denial this long-how hard do you think it is for those close to her to face such a harsh reality about the one they Love and adore so much. We really only know Lauryn through her music and those things that she has expressed to us, but they know her through her pain( Rohan, Fugees break up etc )also I think that even though clef may not have been closely in touch with Lauryn since the breakup him knowing her since 14 gives him some insight that we have not obtained( Not that I think he is all good, If you love one of your childhood friends and think that they have mental problems you don't say when you get well I want my money back for the doctor I paid ), he has been there to see even more contrast to early Lauryn and who she was then we ever will because we weren't there. Me ? What do I want for Lauryn?... I would be happy to see Lauryn heal Lauryn. To me that is more important then the return of the Fugees or even her ever making music again. I consider myself a friend of Lauryn more then I see myself as a fan. If she ceases to bring to the table all that passionate ispirational music to the table, I won't forget who she was or what she was about in favor of someone new, or admire for what shes done musically, I want the best for her even if I can't get those things from here anymore. Just something I think every fan should think about. |

Thanks, and as motivated1 said, I just want to see Lauryn Hill be who she was, at least who she was around the time of unplugged. Because we know the Miseducation Lauryn is long gone (I miss that one a lot). But without being inconsiderate about her feelings, I just want her to be well, and she's not right now. No performance since Unplugged has had that same energy, the intimate energy, where you felt like you knew her.... Not knowing that five years later that she would ... put it basic... die.

I think as fans who are not in Lauryn's inner circle, there is of course no ways for us to actucally know whats going on and it is alot easier for us to deny or speak blinding on the topic. But i disagree with the statement about her family and friends who are in fact within her inner circle. I believe that if Lauryn did in fact have a problem that they would be the first the run a help her! I think that there would be no way that they could miss some of the allegation Wyclef have thrown out. I think with that very love and compassion that you spoke of would keep them concious of Lauryn. N that awareness would in turn force them to act! THat Loyalty you speak of is an obligation they have as her love ones to embrace and take care of her (like we would all do are family)! I dont believe Wyclef and Pras are LAuryn's friends! I think that they were a punch of kids who found chemisrtry through music and a common way of expressing themselves. YEs, they did become close duringthe fugee era but if they were truely friend why would it be so easy for them to not speak after the fugee end. THESE ARE JUST MY THOUGHTS!!!!!!! |
