Her voice was definitely tired but she still had a voice and boy, did she use it. Her rapping and energy was off the hook. I was bouncing along and dancing to her set. She still is a human being, touring the country from hotel to hotel, venue to venue, city to city (sometimes with 5 kids) and she's bound to be hoarse. I'm glad that she didn't sound anything like 2007. She used her voice and her energy wisely when it wasn't all there. It's also very humbling for her as a performer to have the backup singer sing her famous vocal lines in Ex-Factor. She commanded that stage!! Now just like I predicted: People are claiming that she received favoritism over Cee-Lo because they didn't cut her off when she did Doo Wop! Nobody is out for cee lo's blood, it's always Lauryn. WELL, Erykah Badu just performed and A-MA-ZING set and she said "f**k it" and went over her time. They cut her off in the middle of the second encore and she disconnected the mic from the chord and threw it in the audience. I betcha people will find it funny but will never call her CRAZY! it's just amazing to me that people choose to be so damn ignorant. P.S. It was funny as hell. I love Erykah. Oh yeah, you know if Lauryn had pulled a stunt like that, it would be front page news, "Lauryn Hill Goes Crazy and Assaults Audience with Mic Cord" or some other exaggerations

puma *sigh* it'll always be Lauryn they try to slay! I love Erykah too and Coachella needs to leave a bit of room for the performers to go over. They have to know the time is bound to get messed up. People want to hear the rest of the artists sets that's what they come for. Bad move Coachella!

She's doing more festivals soon right? Does anyone know if they will be streamed too, love to see her when her voice is 100% at it's best. Don't get me wrong this performance is amazing, her energy and stage presence is incredible!

I am sorry, but I don't get Erykah. I have tried and tried. She is just not my cup of tea. I think she is all an act just like Janelle Monae down to their fake names. I like a few of her songs, but that is about it. I watched her yesterday, and she says and does the same thing for every performance for years. They had already allowed her to go over her set time, but I guess one song wasn't enough for her. She had no right to act the way she did. See like I said, her true colors slipped out.

I agree, I like many of her songs. She has a nice voice, but its something about her that just does not click with me. I don't know if I would say she's gimmicky, but I tried to follow her on twitter-that didn't last for long. It's like she tries too hard to be deep or something. She seems like a cool person. I just don't understand her, still like her music though.

Ya know...it's the same way that people don't understand Ms. Lauryn Hill. Erykah has a wonderful and unique instrument but I mostly love her because her songs have so much depth to them. "Bag Lady", "I Want You", "Didn't Cha Know", and "Otherside of the Game" are just some of my personal favorites. She's very abstract as a performer and as a person and sometimes can go off the deep end like on that New Amerykah Part 1 album. That was just a little too abstract for me.

Luckily, things quickly improved when comeback queen Lauryn Hill--or Ms. Lauryn Hill, if you're nasty, since that's how she's billing herself nowadays--took the main stage. Yes, Ms. Hill was late by 15 minutes, but after the Cee Lo incident, that didn't seem so egregious. If there were any artist who would have been expected to undergo a breakdown at Coachella it was Lauryn, since she seemed to unravel personally and professionally after her 1998 Grammy breakthrough The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill and critically derided MTV Unplugged follow-up. But Lauryn was, astoundingly, very much on her game this fine afternoon. Looking like R&B royalty as she emerged in a Boy George bowler hat and gold rope chain the thickness of a garden hose, flanked by a sprawling horn section and an in-the-pocket backing band, her experience and professionalism was apparent when she conducted her soundcheck during her first number (due to Cee Lo running overtime before her). Her voice sounded stunning on old-school Fugees hits "Fu-Gee-La" and "Ready Or Not" and her solo signature song "That Thing," and while some fans complained about the liberties she took with the tunes (she performed them with drastically different musical arrangements), there was no denying that she commanded the stage like a star. It was nice to have Ms. Hill back. new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/live/13322/coachella-2011-friday-the-festival-kicks-off-cee-lo-mouths-off-dance-music-blasts-off/?nc

Did anyone else catch Lauryn's interview? It just aired on ch2 and 3 during Kanye's performance. I missed the first part. She is too complicated for me to explain what she said. She was talking about the kids all being musical. She talked about her influences (deep) as always. She touched on charity and taking care of oneself first. I hope they post the interviews.
