Lauryn Hill and Fly Gypsy Mix It Up was a top story for this week. Here it is again: (Audible Treats) D.C.'s dynamic hip-hop duo Fly Gypsy invites singer/rapper Lauryn Hill to join them once again on the latest track off their Vodka Rum Mixtape.
Producer Alexei Jendayi creates an upbeat backdrop with grooving bass punches and a clap snare that weaves in and out of a repeated sample, courtesy of funk/R&B singer Curtis Mayfield. The sunny production and forward-looking, flowing lyrics combine to effectively epitomize "feel-good music."
Emcee Kowboy Kom states, "I love doing songs that mean something and this song has a lot of heart in it. I think a lot of our fans from all walks of life will draw from it in different ways. This is also a personal song to me because music affects people and as a lyricist I try to affect people in a beneficial way." - Check it here

This isn't a new track! The voice should have been a giveaway. Anyway, it's Lauryn from the soundtrack of "When We Were Kings". It's called Rumble In The Jungle and was a Fugees record from 1996.
This was LH in 2005: "If people benefit off my new music to come then so be it, I will only make music to give information to my own children". I think we can give up on any hope of her releasing anything meaningful anytime soon, although I hope I'm proven wrong.

Rohan addressed Lauryn's music career on twitter today @romarley. He said it is definitely the record company that is not allowing her to record what she wants. He said she will tour next year. He also said she doesn't think there is a place for her in the industry. He said she has never stopped making music and never will. She does it because " she loves music" Go to twitter and read his response very interesting.

wait a minute, wait a minute. who on the mothafuckin earth wouldn't allow lauryn to do what a hell she wants? firstly, she has many friends in music industry, and i think that all of them would do everything, and i mean EVERYTHING to allow her to record what she wants. I understand that industry eats little stars, and that industry commands to yet unknown artists but when it comes to stars like lauryn, i don't think they can command her what kind of music she must make.
EDIT: and yes, i knew that this is remix of an older song!

Of course the industry can forbid her to do what she wants because she still in CONTRACT with Sony....Lauryn can not go record somewhere else or make music considerated not best-seller by Sony or she will break this m*th*rf**k**g contract..
The bottom line is that the majors alienate music!

hold on...can't she start her own label? it will cost money, but she sold over 30 million albums in her career. surely she has some money to do it.

That's exactly what I thought she can break her record deal anytime she wants. A lot of musicians and singers have done that before her. Then, she can create her own record label. People with fewer money have done that. Sure it will cost her money but no doubt she will soon make profit.

Jay-Z had to pay $5 million and he only owed his record company 1 album. Lauryn owes Columbia at least 4 albums. Also, her albums are still selling and making money for the company. There is no way she can buy out her contract. She would need another company to step in. The best she can hope for is for Columbia to drop her and it appears they have no intention of doing that. Rohan said she was very patient. So, we will have to see what happens.
Note: Rohan did sound more optimistic yesterday. He said something was in the works.

I just think it's unfair on Lauryn to have the record labels playing limbo with her. If she wants to release music, then they should let her. She is obviously going to make profit, so why are they holding it back??

My guess is : She's going to make big revelations about the music business in her songs, big revelations that the music industry will not let her make. The impact of a song can be very big.

My guess is : She's going to make big revelations about the music business in her songs, big revelations that the music industry will not let her make. The impact of a song can be very big. Well the MTV Unplugged album made big revelations as well. Songs like 'adam lives in theory' and 'mystery of iniquity' are two of my favourites off that live album. She earned a grammy nomination for 'mystery of iniquity' and did manage to go platinum with that record, even though most of us had hardly heard one of those songs on the radio. We don't know what her record label wants from her, but even though she writes and records a lot of music there is no point if they don't mesh into a record? If they just mean they are songs only fit to be released as singles, then that doesn't help a label either. Whatever they want, i really wished they could let the fans know because we are the ones who will give them thier profit at the end of the day. With this day and age, its not hard to communicate with your fans and release new info about your progress as an artist online. But Lauryn rarely has updates from her official site with Columbia, so there is no sign of anything in the making whether we like it or not.
