Just got back from Stockholm today, after seeing the so much anticipated mis Hill at the Stockholm Jazz Festival. Ok, been home for hours though... just gotten my behind to the computer by now, late midnight! So I´ll make this one short, cause I'm fighting sleep, trying to stay awake...
To start of I just got to say WOW!!! That's the best performance I've ever seen in my life! She was so incredible, that I couldn't do much other than gasp(in my mind of course). The opening number was Doo Wop, which she just..... aaargh!! It was so good!!! She kept it going for about ten to fifteen minutes(that's what it felt like). The best song she performed was definetly Lost Ones! Such power! My pulse was far beyond healthy, that's how good she was!!! (trying to keep the exclamation marks down).
She wore beautiful “seventies” clothes, with big golden earrings (the same she wore on the BET Awards), a blue shirt with flowers on it, a sort of brown “beadnecklace”, tight blue jeans with the typical high waist(BET), a wide belt with a big buckle, and bundles of bracelets.... retro. (not sure about the belt, might be me making that one up?)
Her and the band worked so good together. She kept calling for the drummer to take it up, just when you were thinking it couldn't possibly get any better, she turns around an and calls for him and the band to take it up a notch. It was crazy! So powerful! The crowd loved it. And the way she moved around on the stage, taking the whole performance to another level itself. Her body language shone with confidence, love, joy. Lauryn's back! And as she said to the audience, she's excited to make music again. I thought you could tell that she really loved being on stage again. Especially when the 8- 9 thousand big audience sounded like 25 thousand or something! It is the biggest experience of my life. I had the very front row, just by the fence, and right in front of her! It couldn't have been any better!
The “play list” for the night was pretty much like the previous concerts. I'll get back to you when I'm awake enough the recall which songs she did and the correct order she sang them, so I don't mess that up. Any way, when she in the second half, towards the end, started singing Fugees songs the crowd lost it! And the way she did it! I love her for giving me such joy in my life! Get this, to sing along with Lauryn Hill on Killing me softly(like she sang it on the BET), fu-gee-la, Ready or not and How many mics!! With both Lauryn and the crowd going through the roof (if there was any). To sing along with Lauryn on Lost ones, To Zion, Ex-factor, Final hour, Doo Wop...... Freedom time, I just want you around...... the list goes on and on.
I sure wish I would have been to see her in Copenhagen, had been planing for that in months (but there's this thing called “parents”, and just because you're not 18 yet they think you can't handle going to Copenhagen by you're own. Even though you've been around the world and across the seas without them. Just now, they think, “oh, you're not old enough”), so therefore I miss out on Norway as well. But Lauryn was so great that the concert in Stockholm weighs up for it. The stage presence was awesome. Plus I got a little souvenir from the show, so I'm ecstatic!
Thank you Miss Hill!!!
