The first video is online! Lauryn Hill warming up the band. Nothing special unfortunatly.... only a few seconds long... and the quality isnt that great either...
AND YES, the videos can be saved! So I guess I'll save them and upload them somewhere, so people can download them in case they miss this.
peace!

short review of the show (the blogger promises photos, and audio soon)
- Posted 10:51pm "OK, the music critic ..."
We confess, we've never bought an iTunes song from Lauryn Hill, but among her music choices this evening - about 10 songs into the set - it does appear she handles the move from hip-hop to other atyles quite well with her rendition of Bob Marley's "Zimbabwe" like she owned it, and the crowd agreed. Right now she is belting out "Heat Wave" a song that the older members of the audience at least know.
Now, among the music critics, her voice might have been smoother and the band a bit more polished, but no one left too early and it's past eleven o"clock.
Wearing her hair in a giant Afro, the one thing we noticed from the start is she repeated phrases and used improvised and snaked words around the rhythms. It made her sound mystical with sound, lots of it.
Her music blended afro-pop and jazz with a hint of hip-hop.
The worst thing about it was that she started an hour late with no apology, but for most of us that see a concert - any concert - from the nose bleed section, this was a treat.
More music, more photos as soon as we break the bandwidth.

Lauryn Hill: Not Crazy After All These Years?
Lauryn Hill's fall from grace after recording a world-dominating solo album was well chronicled. She released one further album in eight years. She fell under the influence of a mysterious spiritual advisor. Her last major solo concert was a 2003 acoustic show at the Vatican, in which she bashed the "corruption, exploitation, and abuses … by the clergy." And so when she sang last night at the W Hotel on Lexington Avenue – her first performance with a live band in five years, and, as befits such a momentous occasion, it was in a corporate events room and only open to American Express VIP cardholders – the question on everyone's mind was which Hill would show up. Genius Lauryn or Crazy Lauryn? Our money was on Crazy Lauryn.
The party started at 7 p.m., and she took the stage at 9:40, by which time only 120 die-hard fans remained of the initial 300. Her Afro stood sky-high and seemed to have been dyed a shade of burgundy. She wasn't exactly wearing a Halloween costume, but she was dressed all in black, with a floor-length vintage gown, platform boots, a stiff knee-length wool coat, and a chunky onyx necklace tied together with a big ribbon that stood up like an Elizabethan collar. Her cheeks were painted scarlet, and her eyes and eyebrows were covered in black liquid liner.
And then she ripped through fourteen songs, improvising throughout, speeding them up and slowing them down, throwing in raps, and somehow turning her voice into what sounded like a skipping record. Every song sounded entirely new, including her cover of Bob Marley's "Hammer" and her encore, the Supremes' "Heatwave," which she flowed effortlessly into "Doo Wop (That Thing)."
Hill seemed remarkably in command. What was planned as a half-hour set ran an hour longer; she just kept singing even when event planners turned on the house lights to get her off the stage. She grew more intense as the night wore on, standing at the very front of the stage, staring straight ahead for minutes at a time, singing until her voice was shot, and gesturing wildly behind her for more drums, more drums.
Lauryn Hill didn't look like a fallen diva last night. She was an intensely shrewd queen, and she knows her crown is there for the taking whenever she's ready for it.

Why is having a spiritual advisor considered negative? Even Oprah has a spiritual advisor! Famous people need someone to bring them back to themselves. I am glad Ms.Hill met hers because he gave her the Principle.

She was an intensely shrewd queen, and she knows her crown is there for the taking whenever she's ready for it. Don't you love how people will come to realise this statement. All these years calling Ms. Hill crazy (when she's absolutely normal) and then you get to read a sentence like that. That's what we want to hear ;D

Why is having a spiritual advisor considered negative? . Because people thought that he was a cult leader and that he had brainwashed Lauryn and forced her to give him her money.

Another Review:
Ms.Lauryn Hill Belts it Out at a Special SPG Concert Event To celebrate the launch of the flashy new Starwood Preferred Guest credit card by American Express, select SPG members and their lucky guests got to spend an intimate evening at the W New York, listening to the amazing Ms.Lauryn Hill live in concert. Ms. Hill sang some of her most beloved hits, while audience members watched, and rocked out, steps away at the foot of the stage.
After slipping on a signature purple "Whatever Whenever" rubber bracelet, the evening began with a W-style welcome reception in the secluded second floor Preferred Guest Lounge, where plenty of chic travel amenities were there for the taking. Party-goers got to select a sleek silver Leed's travel clock, super soothing Mammoth Mint Bliss Spa bath bar, a hip Warhol-esque paperweight (yup, we will definitely be displaying the paper weight Elvis on our desk), and cool golf guide. After party favors were selected, guests snacked on apps (think risotto dumplings, samosas, tuna tartare, and thai chicken skewers...Mmmm), and swilled on the "Preferred Pomegranatini" (the drink of the evening which inlcuded fresh pomegranate juice, vodka, and orange), and relaxed to beats provided by an incredible in-room DJ.
Ms. Lauryn Hill took the stage to applause and shouts later in the evening and kicked off the show with an old-school, soulful version of "Hello". Decked out in a vintage-style black coat and long low-cut dress, Ms. Lauryn let it all out when she launched into some perennial faves, including To Zion, Killing Me Softly, and Ready or Not. The woman blew the crowd away, dancing, swinging, and revving up the band all night long. The best part? She was completely up close and personal, SPG guests could have reached out and touched her.
An amazing evening with an amazing woman, this initimate affair with Ms. Lauryn Hill was definitely one of the best ways to celebrate Starwood's new SPG American Express card. We look forward to the next super stylin' SPG soiree.
